I’ll call this the “Half Bob” thread as I’m not that we can. (For those of you sans kids, Bob the Builder is a cartoon about a construction guy with talking tools and construction equipment. His catch phrase is “Can we fix it” and everyone answers “Yes we can”.
I think it would be fun to argue not just the problems, but possible solutions, to various ills. I think Dan did this somewhat with the GW debate. So first things first lets make a list of things to argue about.
I have a whole crap load but would like to see some refrain and have everyone list their top three. Top three meaning what you believe to be either the largest issues that need to be dealt with or “Low lying fruit”, rather large problems with easy solutions and large benefits.
I like number 3 from your “Realistic list”. I’m wondering about instead of “Campaign finance reform” if it could be “Campaign reform”
No doubt the financing of campaigns are out of control, if memory serves some 2-3 BILLION is going to be spent on this presidential campaign alone, I’m wondering if the entire process needs to be tweeked?
I dont care how much they spend, so much, I just don’t want corporate entities to have any influence, and I don’t want rich people to have far more influence than poor people.
and I don’t want other nations or non citizens to have influence.
But that’s kinda my point. Where’s there’s money there’s all those things you mentioned no matter how you reform it. I was looking at something along the lines of picking candidates kinda like jury duty. Then have each county vote for “their” guy and then each state and then region until you have widdled it down to 4-5 guys for a national election, second place guy get VP. Spreading the elections out over a period of a year will give plenty of time to weed out the wacko’s. By a jury situation you end up with a non politician for president but a person who if they make it thru all the loops can’t be a complete dolt either.
But I’m getting ahead of myself this is the “Pick your problem” round.
