Can we agree on this?

I have watched events in America from a distance and offer the following observations.
America is great because it gives it’s citizens the opportunity most people only dream about. Obama is a first generation black American and now the President. That is an example the country can be proud of. Obama is inheriting a lot of problems, none created by him and he should be given a chance to deal with them. I don’t put a lot of faith in government to solve problems but he is trying. Obama has spent most of his adult life serving and for that he should be commended. He is the intelligence and ability to do anything and chose public service. It’s great seeing a young family in the Whitehouse. People expect too much from Obama and I hope they take his comments on personal responsibility to heart. Bush showed a lot of class since the election.

Now, let the but Bush, but Clinton comments continue…

Yep. Agree with every thing you wrote.

Spot

I agree to a point.
Dont get me wrong this is a great day in U.S. history!! But the hype is way to much!! I’m U.S. born and served in the Callifornia National Gaurd, but I moved back to Canada in 1985 and consider myself a Canadian. I watched when Bush was the Senator(sp) for Texas and I hated him then and I hate him even more now!! I cant believe this man was ever elected!! he was the senator(sp) for Texas for how long? How many people did he kill in his death chambers? How did this man ever get elected in the first place?!! How did this happen?? But today… Today!! I’m so proud!!! So Proud to say once again say I was born in the U.S.of A.!!!
To quote Forest Gump…that’s all I have to say about that!!

Um…that should be "Obama has spent most of his adult life running for one office or another, missing most votes in the Illinois Senate and more often than not putting in a vote of present"

I think being “slow to judgement” is a good philosophy/perspective to go through life with.

In politics, there is far too much “my team” perspective in going on the offensive/defensive mentality. Also, like sports, there is way to much hype based on whatever happened ‘yesterday’, even though we all know “it’s a long season”. I even think the “100 day” thing is too artificial and unrealistic. I agree that anyone should be given a year or so to chart a course and get actions plans to transfer to action.

I find it very strange, that while we acknowledge that it’s the “hardest job in the world”, simultaneously we critically examine everything. I know, from experience, how hard it is to “govern” something as small as a single school, and to instutute change, and to “please everyone”, I can’t even begin to imagine how much that is magnified with something like an entire nation … especially when you don;t have direct control over many of the aspects. I do relate to the reality that 9 rights or trumped by 1 wrong, in terms of decision making.

As a moderate that leans a bit to the left on social issues and a bit to the right on fiscal issues I wish Obama the best and REALLY want him to succeed. So far, I am extremely pleased with how he has taken a centrist position and appears to be standing up to Pelosi, Frank and Reed. If he continues to do this I will support him fully.

Good luck Mr. President we all have a deep rooted interest in your success.

To the US Canadian, I have always been proud of my country. I am glad you are in Canada.

I admit that is one my concerns/criticisms of his congressional experience. Rather than try to influence the things wrong with our state (numerous), he essentially spent much of his time campaigning for a “better job”. I do admit that I am unsure how much of it was his willingness/desire and how much he was urged/pushed to do so.

I am hopeful, yet not entirely confident, that his first term will not be spent (or at least a significant part of the time) campaigning for a second term. I do hold some restraint in that in order to win a 2nd term (w/o trying to get too far ahead of ourselves), that he will have to produce some good to establish a basis of confidence.

I also recognize that to be patient and “wait and see” is almost counter to human nature, at least in our current society.

  • “*Obama has spent most of his adult life running for one office or another, missing most votes in the Illinois Senate and more often than not putting in a vote of present”

don’t let the facts get in the way of your argument… BHO cast over 4000 votes as an IL state senator and only 130 of those (3.25%) were “present”… a far cry from “more often than not”.

hey, whatever happened to your theory that Rezko was going to flip on Obama before the election?

Just one correction  Obama is actually bi-racial…

When was George W. Bush a Senator?

“none created by him”

He was a member of congress so he had his hand in what is going on now.

I admit that is one my concerns/criticisms of his congressional experience. Rather than try to influence the things wrong with our state (numerous), he essentially spent much of his time campaigning for a “better job”. Probably equal and very large measures of both.

Anyway, he now has the top (and maybe worst) job in the world, so he won’t be looking for a higher position at least…

Basically agree, except for the part about the young family. I really don’t care about his marital status and whether he has kids.

x2

Obama has spent his entire political running for the next office and not doing his job to the best of his ability. Now he has no bigger office to run for so he will have to actually work. Can he actually put what he has been saying into action? That is the question he must answer now.

Dwayned,

Bush was the Govenor of Texas…why did you hate Bush when he was in Texas? Was it really because people on Death row “actually” got executed? Why don’t you just stay in Canada.

**He was a member of congress so he had his hand in what is going on now. **

That would be true if you blame Bush/Congress for all the current ills in America, which I certainly don’t. The President has little if any impact on the economy so I don’t blame Bush or credit Obama for that. If you can point to a specific bill that Congress passed, that resulted in the current economic crisis, I would agree with you but I have asked this before and no one can do that because it has nothing to do with any laws passed. Greedy lenders sold homes to greedy homeowners and Bush cannot be blamed for those fundamental problems, and neither can Congress or Obama.

The biggest faults with Bush were going into Iraq and the change of focus from Afghanistan and bin Laden to Iraq, both of which happened before Obama was in the Senate, so he cannot be blamed for having his hand in that.

**Um…that should be "Obama has spent most of his adult life running for one office or another, missing most votes in the Illinois Senate and more often than not putting in a vote of present" **

What public service have you done in your adult life?

Basically agree, except for the part about the young family.

There are enough broken families in America so that it is a refreshing change. Nothing political intended.

I watched when Bush was the Senator(sp) for Texas and I hated him then and I hate him even more now!! I cant believe this man was ever elected!! he was the senator(sp) for Texas for how long? How many people did he kill in his death chambers?

GWB was never a senator for Texas. He was elected governor in 1994 and 1998, the first Texas governor to be elected to two consecutive 4-year terms (thank you wiki).

So I guess I dont have to ask your stance on the death penalty…I sure as hell don’t want to pay for them, and don’t want them back on the streets with the potential to harm others.

It’s been proven time and again a death row inmates costs much more than someone in prison for life. This is due to the legal process. There’s very little benefit and value of the death penalty in the U.S. Now if we went Taliban-style, that might make some people think twice.
