Can Someone Show/Explain to Me the Elastic Strap "Shoe Trick"?

Done properly, the left shoe is parallel to the ground (I rubber band it to the rear brake, which on my Stealth is just above the front derailleur). That way you can hop onto the pedal at full stride (without pounding the boys on the saddle) and then I rubber band the right shoe to the same point and when the left shoe is at 6:00, the right shoe is angled up perfectly for me to slip my foot right in. If there’s a nasty hill out of transition (yeah, like when is there not?) then I usually don’t have time to fool with that and ride on top of the shoe till the course levels off.

Those with “regular” bikes could tie off to the seat tube bottle holder.

Without the bands, I feel like I’m hunting to find the shoe and get it pointed in the right direction.
