I am at college 6 hrs. away from my parents house. I left my surfing wetsuit at home…can I surf in my tri-wetsuit? Will it ruin it? I’d hate to have to surf in just my boardshorts, my hot bod would be too much of a distraction to the ladies strolling down the boardwalk.
NO! Dont be a wilber!
I would think the rubber would get chewed up very easily.
You could, and I don’t think the rubber would get chewed up, but I think the wax will transfer onto the front of your suit. This will probably be a bitch to get off, and if left on it may slow you down a tad while racing.
It’s also going to be more difficult to duck dive the waves and really get under them
I find my surfing wetsuits are A LOT more flexible than my tri suit, so you might be restricted a bit, but other than that, the only problem as someone else mentioned that I could see would be the wax getting on the tri suit.
And if you’ve got sand in your wax the front skin of your suit will be gone in a few minutes…
Your surf wetsuit is more flexible than your tri suit? I generally have the opposite experience.
Surf wetsuit neoprene is much tougher. If you can cut a tri wetsuit with your fingernails, imagine what will happen when it meets a fin. I wouldn’t recommend using it.
My tri suit is a DeSoto Black Pearl. The bottoms are 5mm and have smoothie throughout which is less flexible than my nylon2 surfing suit. Plus the surfing suit has 100% superstretch neoprene throughout and is thinner. That smoothie coating really reduces the flexibility of the neoprene.
Don’t do it. You will shread the arms paddling on the board.
I used my orca 3.8 last time I went out…didn’t seem to damage or affect it at all.
I’ve used my vortex full suit for surfing and nothing bad happened at all. The bummer was the front of the suit is so slippery when it’s wet I had trouble comfortably staying on the board.
You might have some problems at the knees.

Check that bod in the mirror again dude. Might not be so hot after all, so no need for the tri-wetsuit, problem solved.
