Can I run a Compact Crank?

Hi, I’m currently riding a 9sp 105/Ultegra mix with a 53/39 up front and a 12/25 on the rear. I was wondering if I could switch the front to a 50/34 compact crank without major changes? I know I would probably need a new chain, but what about the cassette? I notice that a lot of people ride 11/23’s with compact, but I think these are 10 speed setups…right?

I recently rode a 10sp with compact crank and really liked it in the hills. Thought I might convert mine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
D-

I run 11/23 in flattish areas or 12/25 in hilly areas with my 50/36 compacts.

I run a compact with 11-23 and find I spend most of my time in the 50 chainring. It’s a nice setup for pretty much every race. I am currently trying to get my hands on a 52/38 front combo for flat courses but they are a bitch to find in FSA.

Check out Glory Cycles. Their website shows that they carry FSA 110mm BCD rings. I looked into this earlier this spring…but did not end up ordering.
