Can I get a quick run down on ITT's in socal

I’m a triathlete in socal looking to take some time off from tris. I want to give road racing a shot for a bit. I am also very intrigued by tt’ing. Where’s a good starting point. I’m training for the world police games in 2011. I would like to do the itt there.

Also would I need to adhere to the uci rules as an amateur at these events? Any help would be great. Thnx

Where specifically in SoCal? That will make a difference as to what’s “local” for you.

If you’re near Ventura/Thousand Oaks, then the Piru monthly TTs would be the call: www.uncletren.com

If you’re all the way down in San Diego, then it’s going to be Fiesta Island: www.fiestaisland.com

In between there’s the “Tom’s Farm” TTs, and Santiago Canyon. Look here for more info on all of these courses: http://socalttseries.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx

Absolutely not.

Huntingon beach specifically. So I could still ride my transition at 80degrees? Or a speed concept if I so choose? And would you suggest just jumping right in and doing one?

Pull out your '90s funny bike, or your Softride and run that if you want. The local TTs (including the District championships) are run under USAC rules and the synopsis of them are “No fairings, and don’t ride a recumbent.” Even then, I know that at Piru there’s even a recumbent category (along with “Eddy Merckx” and Fixie categories). I don’t know about the other venues in that regard.

Jump right in and give it a try. TT folks tend to be quite helpful and accommodating IME.

Cool, thank you. I’m very excited. I’ve been getting alittle annoyed with some of the local triathletes lately:). Need a scene change for awhile :). (pink font)

You will want to familiarize yourself with this http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=4220

and get a cat 5 license

The license requirement depends on the venue. Piru has “Public” categories.
