Can I do this with CyclingPeaks?

I ride a single-speed to work several times a week. Not surprisingly it does not have a powermeter attached.

Could I do the following?

  1. Ride my road bike with powermeter in the same gearing as single-speed to work one day
  2. Save the data in CyclingPeaks
  3. Each time I commute in the future just copy and rename the commute file as a new workout file with a new date

Can I do that? I realize it isn’t exact, but it seems better than not having the workout data at all. Seems like it would help keep my TSS, ATL, and CTL all in check, no?

I don’t believe that would work because of environmental factors.
Weather and wind conditions, as well as if you vary you riding style (get out of the saddle / stop at lights) would vary the output readings. However I’m pretty sure you can calculate a good guess of TSS to add to the weekly numbers.

I guess it depends on how exact you are looking to be. But you should ask the expert (which I am not, Just an avid user). I’m sure Andrew C. or some of the other gurus can answer this in much more detail.

You can also just enter a manual workout. I’ll bet after time you can get a good enough guess for each ride.

Yes. Take a look a build 86 which I think is coming out tomorrow. Just right click on the source workout and choose “Copy to…”. When the workout opens, simply change the date and delete any excess sample points (in case your source file is longer than that day’s ride). Very quick and painless.

J, OK… shouldn’t be J-ATX now?

Yeah… that will work fine. How far is your commute and what is the liklihood of a significant change on a daily basis? Probably not much. So if the day you do the demo ride ends up at 75 points and guessing the other days you ride are 70-80… it’s “close enough”.

Good on ya for commuting!
