Can I build a better bike than this for the same money

I’ve quite a lot of time on my hands, so I may be willing to go down the path of sourcing parts and pulling it all together. Canyon speedmax AL - ultegra and cosmic carbone wheel set, profile t4 bars

So, thats 2800 dollars, give or take, so can I get a similar spec for significantly less - if I don’t consider labour in putting it together?

Thanks

n.b. apologies for the formatting - it was a list. here’s the link: https://www.canyon.com/_en/triathlonbikes/bike.html?b=3687

I doubt it, that bike is so well spec’d… really don’t see how you can do better for less money unless you start to use a lot of used components but why do that if you can get a bike with new components instead.

Hmm it’s possible.

  • Have you considered Velobuild wide-construction carbon wheels? Could sell your carbones and put the money elsewhere…
Starts at 375$ if you get the in tub and don’t care for updrading the hubs. I really like the “true-U” version. I have read good things. Some will frown upon this, but eh - haters’ gonna hate! If you do this, be sure to match the tire/ rim width!
I have a road frame from them and freaking love it. Crits, Road Race, ITU triathlon, etc It’s much better than the Kuota I was riding.

  • Can also find cockpit, and seatpost form VB.

  • Watch Bikeisland.com. They will occasionally sell bikes that came to them with broken frames (But excellent everything else). So, you could get a full build kit and they offer a great discount w/o frame. They also usually have good priced tri - bikes, which will have a downtube scuff or missing tire for ex.

  • Look for a used SRAM red crankset, which has the best stiffness/ weight/ cost ratio of anything you could put on your bike. I have seen them for $150, but you will have to really watch for it!

  • If flexibility is an issue for you -consider smaller crank arms, so that you can assume a better position on the bike, which would trump a lot of things you can spend money on.

  • The Ultegra BR 6800 are absolutely awesome. I ride them on my road racing bike, and found a set for $100 new take offs.

  • Wheelbuilder Aerojacket on your china carbons for a badass TT wheelset on a budget.

  • If you find yourself in a position where performance is your greatest goal, Consider taking a leap to new frame technology from Falco Bikes.

Cheers!

Actually, check this out. It was up for $400 and did not sell, now BIN $300 and no bids starting at $200. Even if you took the derails and shifters, and re-sell the rest!

You have one day, 7 hours to jump off of the Ultegra 6800 obsessed train. Not that there is anything wrong with it, it’s a great groupset. However unless going Di2, I wouldn’t choose it over SRAM Rival 11 speed for significantly less $$. But that’s a personal choice, to each their own.

Later mate!
