Can anyone help me find a place in the san diego area that could take off the paint of my softride bike frame? I would like to polish the frame myself but it has been a real pain taking the original paint off. I don’t want to use such an abbraisive sand paper for I might damage the aluminum. Please email me at cwpadilla@hotmail.com if you have any ideas.

Thanks,

Cesar

Try using aircraft paint stripper. It is available at auto stores. I hear this stuff works great, but is pretty toxic, so careful on applying. You can do a search of mtbr.com or roadbikereview.com for more information.

wow…nice long thread title…

I only opened it to see if the body of the thread added anything. Sadly not!

Cesar,
I know of a place here in SD. Not sure of the name. I will get it to you when I get home, I have it saved in my “favs” on the home computer!

Joe Bell. He’s a bike painter, and can also do what you want done. He’s got the equipment and skill to strip and blast that frame without damaging it. I don’t know a number, but check 411 for Lemon Grove or thereabouts.

BTW – if you polish it, you’ll have to clear-coat it or it will be a grayish-whiteish dull finish in a matter of weeks (wickedly ugly). Aluminum oxidizes rapidly. Joe can talk to you about clear-coat as well.

here ya go…
