Can anyone get a Specialized Transition?

Wanting the Transition Comp (black and yellow, size M)

The shop I’m working with ordered one (the one I wanted in the size I wanted!) for their store a while back so I put a down payment to make it mine. Three weeks ago I was quoted “end of April, first of May”. Yesterday I was told “end of May”. With the Ohio state TT and Master’s Nationals at the end of June, I have a sneaking suspicion that I won’t be getting the bike in enough time.

Has anyone been able to get a Transition of any type? I live in SW Ohio and called just about every shop listed on Specialized website in the tri-state. I was quoted July delivery from a few shops.

One of the shops in albuquerque has them.
.

Try R&A. That is where I got mine (live in NW OHIO) after trying to order through a local shop. This is of course an older 2005 model, but seems like the same supply issues of today.

I wanted one last year when they first started advertising them. I knew they were not available so I purchased a Planet-X to tied me over until the new Transition became available. I put an order in for a frame because i had purchased all of the parts for the PX. The order went in 5 months ago. ETA was March and it never changed. Had LBS call last week and he was told I will never get it. I am pissed! I have even purchased over $1000 worth of new parts for it. I know this is my own fault but Specialized has been advertising this thing for a year. It is still being advertised on the web site and they can’t produce it. I have owned so many Specialized products over the years and I have had to deal with several re-calls that left me without equipment to use. This has pushed me over the edge. As a consumer, the only power I have is to make sure they don’t receive any more of my money. Now I am looking at the C-Dale Slice or the Look 486. I have a brand new Xentis TT bar I might be willing to sell if I can’t find a bike. It is pricey but I would let it go below MSRP.

maybe look into the jamis xenith tt frameset…i hear it looks pretty good with that xentis aerobar.

My LBS has a medium in the Elite. Great bike shop and they back their stuff. Fraser Bike in Fraser, MI ( Metro Detroit). Pul them up on line and give them a call.

Hmmm, well I am not sure why the shop was told it wont show. I sent a pm to the original poster. But, give B&L (858-481-4148) a call they have a few on the floor right now. I am not 100% sure on frame sets. Give them a call tomorrow, or shoot me a pm and I’ll check with them in the morning. Also, I can say that a LOOK 486 is an AWESOME bike. I have one and have about 3500 miles on it, and love it more each time I ride it. It would be great set up with aero bars for tri. As well, I rode a slice six13, last years model. Okay bike, but not in the same league as the LOOK or Transition.

I got pissed and bought a Felt DA- got it in 3 days. I could not be happier.

My unnamed source said that Specialized is fixing (or has already fixed) some quality control issues that have slowed production on the transition. This has caused the backlog. I heard mid-summer to catch up.

BL in solana beach has them(i have heard) and i have seen them black and yellow and red and white in Santa Monica, forgot name of the shop. Maybe you should check out the west coast and get out of that cold!

Nope. Ordered mine 1st of the year, and was told during a conference call with Specialized inside rep that I would have it by the end of January. Sold my old tri bike the end of January and here it is April and I do not have the bike nor do I have a date of when it will arrive. I was told there have been quality issues and 25% of the backlog to be delivered in May, another 25% delivered in June and the remainder to be delivered in July. Unless you have a “connection” at Specialized (like an ST poster who already has his bike) you are out of luck.

Cynergy Cycles in Santa Monica, CA has at least one black and yellow on the floor. Give them a call

As a retailer in the UK we are finding it immensly frustrating to see the dates of Transition frames ordered from Specialized pre-Kona, go from original Feb dates, to March, to April, to MAY now.
Believe your LBS is as annoyed as you are, as they (and we) go on the dates quoted.

Thanks for all the information everyone. Looks like I’ll be spending some time on the telephone today.

One thing I am concerned with is that some shops state that Specialized bikes can’t be ordered through the ‘web’ and you have to actually show up at the shop to pick it up. We’ll see.

Thanks again.

Let us all know what you find out. I too, ordered a bike in October and am still waiting and seeing delay after delay. The rep is coming to town tomorrow and I am hoping to be able to talk to him to get a straight answer. How long to wait? There are other bike options out there but the stack and reach dimensions of this bike are just right and it is the only line that the only bike shop in town carries. It seemed destiny, but maybe not.
It is somehow comforting to know that others are going through the same experience.

Good luck in your hunt.

I picked my transition expert up at the beginning of March from D’Ornellas bike ship in Toronto. I had put my deposit down the beginning of September to ensure that I got mine first. When I was there they had a few others in stock. I know for sure that they had a Transition Comp in stock in a medium. If you are desperate for the Comp it might be worth a call.

Best of luck. For those waiting for the bike it was well worth the wait.

They had the Expert, in medium size. So I just bought it. Making the 3 hour drive to Michigan next Tuesday to pick it up. Thank you for the heads up!!

I have a transition pro in large that I am planning on getting rid of. I purchased most of this bike last year under the impression it would arrive in December. When I was told that it would not arrive until May, I went ahead and bought a P2C instead of playing the waiting game. I have trained on the P2C all winter and still do. Now with a race in a week, I have decided that I do not want to switch bikes and will therefore continue to use the P2C. I have not ridden the Transition, and it has been custom built from the ground up.

I just got a small Pro model from Concept Cyclery in Morgan Hill, CA. They had five more bikes when I was in there (S-Works and Pro models, small through large). I guess being in Specialized’s backyard helps! Staff was really helpful, they are definitely worth checking out.

If your close to Columbus, go to Bike Source. Their shop here in Overland Park, KS has one in stock and I know they will transfer bikes between shops free of charge. I had to do the same thing to get my P2C last year. It came in from Denver. Give 'em a call, I am sure they will take care of you.
