How compatible are the components of Campy & Shimano 10 speed groups?
More importantly, can I take my campy 10 whee and run it with a Shimano 10 drivetrain and vice versa?

Yes, minimal if any issues at all. I have done it first hand. Works about as well as all the 9 speed gear did…pretty well.
My bike’s equipped with 2002 Campy Chorus 10-speed. I switched out my chain and cogset for Shimano 10-speed on Friday and rode 140 km. yesterday with that setup. Everything worked very well, and I dare say it shifted up front better than the all-Campy incarnation did, but that could be due to better adjustment this time around.
This makes all the Shimano-compatible hubs and wheels in my stable much easier to accomodate. And an added bonus is that since most neutral race support at Ironmans is heavily skewed toward Shimano hubs/cogs an extra wheel in a pinch should be easier to find.
