Because a regular mini-fridge runs on 110 only, these run on 12v and use a brushless motor to run the compressor. Similar function but not entirely the same thing.
My wife and I car camp a bit in the summers. I have had a few different varieties of coolers, but refuse to drop the cash on a Yeti. We got a new cooler last season- Igloo BMX. It has been by far the best cooler I have owned. Holds ice very well for many days.
Just got back from a trip. Left when it was 90 degrees here. Had two Yeti branded blue ice packs on the bottom, everything pre chilled. One 10 pound bag of ice on top. The drive out melted a bit and got the ice to settle, so we added a 2nd 10 pound bag the next day.
Returned home two days later with quite a bit of ice left.
For the money, I dont think the Igloo BMX series can be beat.
Leaving today on another week trip. I procrastinated and didn’t buy anything so we’ll be going retro with a 15 year old cooler and buying ice daily or as needed. I’ll see how much of a PIA it is to drain/ stock a cooler everyday but a portable ice maker that can make more ice than any sane person could ever use is much cheaper than a yeti rip off or good electric cooler. I’m thinking this might be a practicable solution since 90% of the places we stay are on grid with water and electric.
Yup. The portable ice maker works too.
I keep thinking about the plug in ice maker for our rv. In normal times between car races and trips to CO and the beach we use it about 60 days a year…
