The 8:45 wave start is a bit late.
Yes, It’s close to the ocean…But it can get warm on the run because of the late start.

As others have said, not alot of spectating opportunities, except the swim and at the halfway mark of the 2-loop run (T1 and T2 notwithstanding). Getting in, no problem. They just drive in the main gate and say they’re coming to see you in the triathlon. Parking is in a big dirt/grass lot, but it’s a decent walk, maybe 1/4 mile to the race site from there.
Last year was indeed hot on the run with sunny skies from the get go. This year, looks like we’re going to have variably cloudy conditions with the monsoonal flow going on right now. More humid than normal. Could be blazing sun, or overcast. Impossible to determine with the monsoonal flow we have right now. It changes from hour to hour as the clouds are mid-level instead of the normal marine layer stuff. Sorry…got carried away with the meteorological stuff:)
As always great weather report. Kinda looks like chance of T storms up here.
Do I really need to plan a a 30 min drive from the gate to the race site?
Thanks
i would say no, not unless you enter the north gate on your bike and ride to the race site, it is probably only about 2 miles from the south gate if that!!!
the parking isn’t at the race site. the 30 minutes is more like the drive plus the walking the bike from the parking to the race site.
can someone post the wave start times (M45 - 49), or a link to them? Couldn’t find them anywhere and I didn’t recieve my number in the mail (yet) and I am assuming that this was included in the mail out.

I might do that! I wanted to get in a post-race workout anyway since I’m missing my long ride that day. Parking at Las Pulgas might be the call.
shoot if you are in San Clemente you can just rid to the race and ride back home!
I could, but that would be a good 20 miles from my house before the race with a heavy backpack. Not conducive to putting in a PR for the race…but maybe! I’m thinking you’re right.
hey, that back pack shouldn’t be heavy, only wetsuit, goggles, towel, fuel and shoes that should be it. well maybe powder and body glide. race belt. nothing too heavy.
wow, I get to sleep in since I don’t start until 9:30 ![]()
.
I get it. You must be in my AG and you want me to get tired out before the race.
What about water temps? I was thinking of using my spring suit… I hate swimming in my surf fullsuit and I don’t own a tri wetsuit.
shhh!!!
don’t tell anybody. i just need to reply to another 100 people and tell them to ride to Camp Pendleton and enter the base from the North gate and have them all ride to the course from the North gate and maybe i can place in the 35-39 AG!
hey better yet i will tell them there is no parking on base and they have to park in San Clemente and ride to the course.
that has got to move me up a few slots!!!
You’re safe. I’m in 40-44.
You could easily go with a spring. Water temp has hovered around 70-71 for the past two weeks.
Robertos or Albertos?
Its been 15 years since I graduated from SDSU and survived on their fine cuisine.
