Hello…I plan to ride from San Diego (PB) to San Clemente tuesday…I was wondering if anybody knows if I can get through Camp Pendelton (i’ve heard yes and no), approx. how long the ride is and if the bike route is easy to follow. I searched the forum but I would like to know if anybody has recent info. Thanks in advance.
I pulled someone the other day that was on his way to Newport Beach and we were on the 1 going North. He would have had to gone through Camp Pendleton to get there.
I have also heard of some group rides going through there lately as well so you should be in luck.
I should say for the record that I do not have first hand experience going through Camp P lately so it worth what it’s worth.
Good Luck.
I believe you will need a valid driver’s license to get on the base if you are a civilian. I know it was closed to civilian cyclists for a while but I think that changed in the last few months. Shoot me an e-mail if you want detailed directions.

I’ve been riding on base for the past couple of weeks. (I’m a civilian). All you need is a photo ID to show at the gate. Use the main gate to get on and then follow the bike lane. They do have signs at the one or two turns that you have to make to get all the way through. Be sure to carry a spare tube or two though. I haven’t flatted there yet, but there is a lot of junk in the bike lane.
