I see the President and Michelle are off to Camp David for the weekend. You’d think he would stay home and work on fixing all our problems. I wonder what it costs to ferry the whole entourage up there and back for a weekend anyway.

I read all four of Woodward’s books on the Bush presidency. One thing that I was very struck by was that these people work ALL THE TIME. Bush was bashed for taking so much vacation time, but he didn’t go to Camp David or his ranch and sit around watching TV and sleeping in. He spent a fair amount of that time working and having meetings.
Sunday meetings were not out of the ordinary, they were par for the course. Seriously, I doubt that the president has ANY days where he doesn’t work. Sure, not a full days worth, but never a day off like most of us are used to.
Imagine four or eight years without a day completely off work. No thanks…
It stimulates the Thurmont, MD economy. At least three secret service men have breakfast in town on Saturday.
It is a similar cost benefit ratio as the stimulus plan–1.5TT $ for 3M jobs.

I hope he and the family have a pleasant weekend. I’m sure he’ll be working pretty hard at Camp David too…though, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if he took the weekend *completely *off!

Yes and no, turnabout is fair play, and GWB was bashed for any second he did not spend behind the desk in the oval office. He was particularly bashed for any time in Crawford, and for ANY time spent exercising. Obama is being praised for his ethic of working out daily. Yes, at least now, during his honeymoon, there is a double standard. I expect things will change…
Don’t be such a douche, He’s just working at a different place. Maybe his girls need to get away and have a good time. I don’t like his policies but come on. It’s gotta be like a prison somewhat for his family.
Like most professional people, I assume he works wherever he is. I think about work and improving things when I’m running, swimming or other places all the time. I’m sure President O does to just as President Bush did.

Well, Pres Bush wasn’t really bashed for taking time away from Washington. He was bashed for taking more vacation than any President in recent memory. That said, he was obviosuly still working whether it was at Camp David, Crawford, etc. I would expect this is Pres Obama’s first trip to Camp David since taking office, and it will be spent doing normal work, plus getting familiar with the place, the staff, etc.
He’s gotta get his hours in somehow- I’m sure he’s fairly sick of riding the trainer in the Lincoln bedroom at this point in the season.
