Camelbak Raceback

Has anyone seen or tried one of those camelbak base layers that the bladder fits inside the pouch on the back? Looks pretty interesting, carries 72 oz. Any thoughts?

Racepack? How about Water Station. No need to carry more than 700ml.

But with a camelback, no need to slow down at the water station or fiddle with a bottle. And aero trumps weight.

And if it’s a hot race, you can load some ice in there as well and it will keep your core cool. Torbjorn should totally rock this!

I have one. It’s an interesting thing for triathlon. I still need to swim with it under my wetsuit, but I think it’s definitely a viable option for racing. It’s very comfortable. I’m still unsure of how exactly it will work, but I’m mulling it over and will put it up in an article. The big question is whether or not you could effectively swim with it. It’s a good enough top to wear with tri-shorts and just pull on in transition.

Look forward to hearing about it. I’ve been interested in this as well.

Yeah, I would think the drag would be that you’re carrying the weight of all that water through much of the early stages of the race. Of course it’s going to get lighter as you drink, but bummer if you have a long climb early in the race.

Have you tried running with it? I am interested in trying one for long runs.

I haven’t, just because I hate running with any extra weight. But I know people who have that found it a very nice solution.
