That’s a real shame.
blessing in disguise i say
.
Yeah, really too bad. Hopefully he’ll get over the PF and be ready to battle for the top spot in Kona.

Well he should be well rested for Kona so yeah it may be a good thing.
he’s got that monkey off his back (the “no wins other than Taupo” monkey that is) so he didn’t need this race IMO…
Fair call. I would suggest he’d be bursting out of his skin to race by the time Kona rolls around.
He is such a great guy. I hope the rest will serve him well to finally win Ironman Hawaii.
Herbert
hey Herbert, did you deal with Cam in his/your Litespeed days? Was he a sponsored rider, or was Litespeed a personal preference of his?
(just curious, new to the sport…)
Cam was actually on a Litespeed before he ever was sponsored directly by Litespeed. I was at Litespeed for 10 years and have thus experienced the rise of Cam Brown from his humble beginnings to his amazing successes. I was actually able to hug Tim DeBoom and Cam Brown at the finish line in Kona the year when they finished 1 and 2 aboard their Litespeeds. Can not recall any other bike brand that had a 1, 2 male finish in the same year in Kona. ![]()
Herbert
Too bad for Cam, but I think this is a blessing for him. I believe nobody has won Kona doing 3 IM’s in the same year. Cam is a great person and I hope he can put it together for Kona this year.
Awesome!!
IIRC i’ve seen one of his Litespeed’s go up for auction a couple of times on our local version of ebay…now if i had the money… ![]()
Not a chance in Kona this year.
I understand he can’t run for the next 8 weeks which puts him out until mid August. So I don’t believe it will be enough running pre Kona to pull off a win.
His other problem is he won’t “Risk it” on the bike and go for it when a break occurs. Untill he does he won’t win Kona and sadly he can only have a few more years left.
Other than the fact hes the Current IM Germany champion of course
.
he still ran pretty well at ironman nz, despite all his issues in the days leading up to the race…considering the injury first presented itself in jan (although it didn’t really affect him in his buildup then). i hope he can get it sorted. who knows, might really be able to improve his bike in the time off running and be able to (and want to) foot it with the top guys on the bike…
true that, and another win over Stadler on home turf would be nice, etc etc…fact remains he’s proven himself now against the Euro crew (and yes, he’s beaten plenty of 'em in Taupo over the years too) and the mid-season IM approach he’s had for a number of years hasn’t paid dividends for him so far in Kona. so, provided he doesn’t have any contractual obligations to fulfil by being the defending champ, i don’t see any harm in a change?
and btw, i agree with those posters who suggest he needs to man up on the bike…going hard & going early seems to be the winning tactic of late
(spoken like the armchair critic that i am :oD)
