What’s the best way to keep track of the calories going in and out? Writing down everything seems a bit old school, and how accurate is the calorie counter on the garmin 305?

The calorie estimation on the 305 is very inaccurate. The best gauge on the bike is to use a power meter. The run and swim have easily calculated Kcal/wt/distance measures. There are numerous smartphone apps that will help you count calories during the day.
