Caloric Confusion:

All,
I’m seeking your advice. I’ve been an avid marathon runner for years; LOVE running/working out and of course, food. My stats are as follows:
Weight = 148
Heigh= 5’6ish
Size= 6
Age= 29
Right now I’m only training for a marathon and I’m wanting to drop about 15 lbs; and just can’t get this calorie intake correct. I’m a big fan of Jillian Michaels and what I’ve learned for her books is that I’m suppose to eat my BMR (about 1470) * daily activity(1.55) which is about 2280 to maintain this weight. With this knowledge and training for a marathon; how the heck am I suppose to know how many calories to eat? Here’s my assumption:
2280-500(weight loss) = 1780
Then should I be adding back IN my activity calories or subtracting them out? AHHH !! I just don’t know my majic # in oder to lose weight !!! Thanks so much for any input !

No generic formula is going to work for everybody. Why don’t you just track your calories daily with www.fitday.com and also track your weight daily and see what happens? Once you figure out how many calories per day you need to maintain, you can cut back by 300-500 per day and again see what happens. You will never get a good handle on this until you track your calories for some time. Forget about trying to predict it with some equation.

i second mikes advice. sloly cut back until weight does too
