I am ready to buy my new bike! I was going to get a Tiphoon but saw Steve Larsen’s P3 on EBAY. I thought this would be a great bike to have if the price does not go too high. I am 6’ 1" with long legs (35"/ 89cm inseam)and a short torso (25"/63.5 cm). Could I fit on a 58cm P3 or would it be too big and a 55cm work better for me
I’m 6’0" with a 87.4cm inseam and a 56.9cm torso, and my 55cm P3 fits perfectly (with a 90mm stem). I would suspect that the 58cm would be too long in the top tube for you.
This is not a great way to buy a bike but I do second that opinion that it may be a touch too large or, maybe more correctly, you’d be better off on the smaller size.
It seems like the best customer for Steve’s bike would be a collector of Ironman memorobilia. They should start an Ironman museum and this could be one of the exhibits.
I would love to buy it as a display but we’re buying new TV’s for the store and just built a new wetsuit fitting room so I’m tapped out for cool display purchases.
I am 6’2 with a freakishly long inseam 37 inch…I ride a 58 and it fits me perfect…But, I am slammed forward so it works for me… I would think that if you were to go super steep then it would fit…But don’t go steep just to make it fit…My .02 cents
I guess I should add that I’m riding my 55cm at ~80.5 degrees (according to Dan’s chart) and still needed a 90mm stem to get the right cockpit distance.
It sounds like you are about the same height and inseam as Steve (and me). If I recall correctly, when I bought my P3 from Steve, he said his 58 was a bit too large for him and that he was switching to a 55. Keep in mind that Steve generally rides somewhat shallow - except when he is riding on the nose of his saddle - so, if you ride steep, the 58 may be OK.
Now you guys have me worried. I’m 6’ and a 1/2", my inseam is about 37", 94cm and I ride a 58 P3. When I bought the bike I knew nothing about bike fit and told them to order me a 58 because my road bike was a 58.
I wonder if that’s the size I would have wound up with if I had been fitted before buying the bike.
I wouldn’t worry Jaylew. I would think a 55 would be too small… You would have to have alot of spacers in the front to get a comfortable fit with those long daddy leggs…Believe me I know…
This is my first official post to this site. I am a new owner of a P3 58 and I am 6’1 1/2" with a 34in inseam and ride as steep as that bike will let me with the post turned. Nytro fit me and it feels right.
