I’m about to leave on a flight to Vancouver and as I put my contacts in I noticed I must have accidentally ripped one last night. No problem, I’ve got a couple of spares. But I can’t find them. I just moved and I think they were accidentally thrown out. I’m leaving in ~30 minutes to go to the airport and I’m going to wind up in a foreign country not being able to see. Not to mention there’s a little race in a week. I believe my prescription is expired as well so I’m probably going to need an exam.
Being a foreigner, will I be able to get an exam and contacts immediately? I use toric lenses for my astigmatism as well, which doesn’t help matters. I know in the States I usually have to order them and wait for them to show, although sometimes they have a sample pair that’s close to my prescription that they’ll let me use if I’m in need. I’m driving to Penticton tomorrow and I’m guessing my best chance of getting something done will be in Vancouver.
I will bring my expired prescription. Any chance an optometrist will give me a sample pair (or one) to get me through the week?
I’ll get on a computer when I arrive tonight in Vancouver (7:40). Hopefully someone out there will have some good advice.
A few years ago I woke up in Penticton with an ulcer on my eye (I didn’t know what it was at the time, but it hurt like hell). There’s an optometrist office right by the race start (across the street from where Hog’s Breath, now Starbucks). After a quick search on Google, I believe it’s Waterfront Eye Care. They took excellent care of me despite the insurance issues. They saw me immediately, diagnosed it, and gave me something to get rid of the discomfort. I think they charged me $20.
If you can’t get help prior, they’re worth checking out.

If you could also give me a phone # and address where you will be staying that would help. I am going down to spectate but don’t want to leave it to the last minute.
