Calling all (electric) guitar players

There are way too many variables , the strings could be shot when you played it at the shop. They build guitars out of solid acrylic / plastic ,it has the resonating qualities of a rubber ball .

Pickups -strings - switches -tuning , they could be bolted to 2X4 from home depot ,it would sound just as good .

Guitars are like women , they change all the time , they can be sweet , or get loose and lose their action . Still you keep screwing with them till your happy . If not set them in the corner to collect dust.

Sounds like you’ve already made up your mind!

I have and I haven’t, it’s just that if the guitar sounds totally like crap unamped it makes me wonder how exactly it could sound good amplified… of course there’s a lot of messing around that can be done at the sound processor level, but if the original signal sucks…

While I’m cutting edge at buying bike gear, I’m pretty much old-school when it comes to my music gear.

I am fairly old school when it comes to drums/cymbals, but then I’ve been playing them for nearly 20 years and I know what to look for… a lot harder to do when it comes to a new instrument.

If you’re using an emulator, why not just pick the one that plays like butter?

which one are you talking about?

btw, I think that site does not like my firefox or vice-versa, oh well…

already? they did look ok, just the guitar felt really cheap in my hands, and the neck wasn’t nearly as nice as the others I tried (or my acoustic for that matter)

then why all the attention to materials in the more expensive guitars? Why people don’t just buy the cheapest squier and then change the pick ups? It would be a lot cheaper than buying a les paul… they also make drums of acrylic, or cheap woods etc. and you can definitely fix them up a lot with good microphones, good skins and so on, but if you start with an actual good drum shell it’s not even funny how much better you can get it to sound.

lol

Quality and tone , You can spend thousands on pickups and fine wood in the body & neck , its more show than go. You end up paying for a Name brand not any improved tone . As in cars a Benz or Jag will cost more and need more maintenance than a Honda or Toyota .

I think over $600 -$1000 its into the show range

Sure the Chinese fender may be junk at $159.98 ,but you could find a nice sounding one that works great for 5 -10 years. I have had disposable sub $200 guitars that sounded very nice . Pickups can be a cheap up grade if needed.

Your better off with a cheapy , till you find a neck width or finish you like . Than spending a lot on a show guitar that hasn’t got the feel your looking for.

thanks everybody for their help, in the end I finally found a good seller and I ended up with this awesome guitar for (CAD) $260

You did well , the color is close to my Jackson guitar .

yeah, it sounds super nice and is very playable (super straight neck, no buzzing anywhere despite the good action, nice frets, you name it): as soon as I found out it was the same company as my seagull I knew that it’d have been a lot nicer than anything at a comparable price. It’s amazing just how great the guitars from the la-si-do family (l’arrivee, godin, seagull, art & lutherie, simon & patrick, …) are and how much nicer they are than the comparable offerings from the more established names.

I just showed it to my coworker guitar playing friend and he assumed it was a $700+ guitar

Congrats - looks like a great instrument.
