Calling All Campy Users!

So by now someone must have the new crank and BB (R10carbon… looking in your direction here). What do you think? Does it spin as well as square? anyone got >1000miles on it yet? Anyone install one?

I am battling between a new road rig (that would make one road bike, one CX bike) with 07 campy or a P2C (which would make one TT bike, and one road-ified CX bike)

It spins beautifully, as with all campag - a work of art.

If you’re mainly a triathlete the P2C would make more sense - the CX bike would be great for road training.

it.is. the. shiznit.

but then of course, it’s campy.

I’m riding the new Chorus - not a ton of miles yet, but a couple hundred. They are very, very nice, and the shifting is perfect (far better than my FSA cranks). Stiffer or less stiff than the square taper? Impossible for me to tell, but they spin nicely.

We have it and have installed it and ridden it approximately 350 miles so far. Briefly, here are our impressions:
For your own good, read the instructions for installation first and keep them handy. It is important to follow them. It is easy to make an error in orienting the arms to 18o degrees because the splines are relatively fine in the bottom bracket engagement area inside the frame. Of course, the second you step back and look you’ll see your error since it is obvious, but it is an easy mistake to make. One improvement over previous systems is that this new Torque system doesn’t seem to loosen with early use as did the older Campagnolo system. You tighten it once to the torque spec and then leave it. I don’t think it rotates to feel any better or worse than previous systems or other brands. I think they are all about the same and once you start pedalling any minor difference is likely to be undectable anyway. The front shifting does seem to be improved. I wonder if that is as a result of a stiffer crank/bottom bracket union?
Overall, the system is very nice and works well provided you use the usual meticulous attention to detail commanded by a Campagnolo installation.

The improvements over '06 Campy? On a scale of 1 to 10

I have maybe 500 miles on the crankset. On initial install the bearings did not spin as freely as my square taper–super smooth, to be sure–but with chain off, in a work stand, square taper rules. Zinn at Velo News just tested a number of b.b. (mainly to test ceramic vs. steel). Guess which b.b. spun the longest in his test? A used campy mirage (1999) square taper. Of course his test was at low pedaling loads, so whether or not it makes a real world difference, is debatable.

As Tom mentioned, shifting seems crisper than older campy or fsa.

Rating 1-10 over 06? I would go with a 7.

WHOA…so wait…if you misalign them will they still work OK? If so, do they become…Campy Rotor Cranks?
