Californiaman/caliman weather looking great

Mary, you sure are trying to do a good job to deliver your promise for the weather. So far the 7 day says low 80’s. Man, this would be great. Not sure about the wind yet.

I just love Califonia weather, so boring.

Dave

HA, HA. Last winter was the most interesting weather I’ve seen here in 18 years. However, from May-September, you could basically cut and paste the same weather forecast every single day, at least here at the beach! It never changes.

Mary promised, no wind on the 17th. :o)

Dave

Wind, vacaville, wind, is there never a day when there is not?

Larry, you are not doing the californiaman?

Dave

What was your lesson? I did the caliman half last year.

Dave

SPECTACULAR weather at Big Kahuna today.

Some gnarly headwind the last 5-6 miles before the turnaround though. Gusty and blustery most of the ride.

Yes, but how was the eColi in the water???

Stunningly beautiful day in Marin today too. Wind, sun, lots of riders out.
clm

EColi avoided I hope.

The course change confused the bejeebers out of me because every time I’ve done a race in the area I’ve swum around the pier. I didn’t catch the prerace meeting so I just kinda treaded water a few times while I looked around and tried to figure out why people weren’t going “the right way”.

It messed with my head a bit and resulted in a suboptimal swim…

Cathy, the weather is still looking to be perfect, but will assume we will get some good wind. You going to be able to make it to cheer us on?

Dave

Unfortuately no. I will be torturing myself at the Auburn Century, doing the 70 mile/7,000 ft. of climbing ride.

Davis forecast:
Friday through Monday
Mostly clear. Highs 80 to 87. Lows around 53.

You will be real close to me. I would have considered doing that ride if I was not doing the Californiaman.

So, you down to what, 5 weeks or so to Hawaii. Getting excited?

Dave

Pretty nice forecast. We can have some real hot spells this time of year. It sure has been perfect weather the last few days! Just wish those darn trees would stop blowing. :o)

Dave

Looks like perhaps low 80s for Saturday at this point, so you’re right, we just might be blessed with a nice day for racing. But it will be windy!

We can pretend we are Dave Scott training for Hawaii, or being in Hawaii. :o)

I just hope if we have some head winds we get tail winds for the coming back on the bike section. :o(

Dave

How many folks are going to the Pasta feed on Friday at 5? I guess Steve will be the speaker. How many folks have brought their wife, other to these? Do they have a good time or are they bored? I will driving back home that night since I am an hour drive, and I would rather get no sleep in my bed. Getting back up at 4 should be no big deal since will probably be awake anyways.

Dave

Well, the weather is still looking great. The next heat wave they say is next week. Still expect wind, but again, could be worse.

Starting to get nervous. The boss and I went through and packed all the various bags I need, and made a list of what is missing.

My darn leg is still hurting from my sprain on Sunday, which is not helping the mental game. Reading all the IMWI is really not helping, other than I sure am planning to go controlled, paced for as far as I can go!! I have lots of gu, drinks, etc. I got a call from the local newspaper so they can put something in about the race, so the pressure is really really on to finish!!

Oh well, as I always say, anyone who gets to the start line is a winner in my book. Getting across the finish line would just be icing on the cake.

In three days at this time I hope I am still out on the run, moving, under my own power!!

Dave

Since today was 80s with howling wind here in San Diego, I went out and did 20k of loops at Mission Bay at lunchtime. One last shakeout of the gear in expected CaliHalfMan conditions.

Dang – that 808 front wheel sure has a mind of its own in a 15mph cross-wind!

See y’all Friday afternoon. Any of you folks going to the banquet?

Yep, planning to go and buy my wife dinner. :o)

Want to shake Steves hand and say ignore the negative people, and go get them in Hawaii!!

I am a 6’5" and skinny. May be wearing my gilligans hat.

Stop and say hi.

Dave

Gosh darn it - I am not racing now. I was hoping I could get the moolah together for this one but no luck. Anyway, I might well be at the pasta feed on Friday and I’ll be on the bike course at the Lake Solano Aid station (about 2/3 of the way down on the bike course) then at a few run Aid Stations in town.

I am not going to call out time splits from Steve Larsen - unless you really want them. A lovely few days it has been in Davis too. Brand new restaurant/bar just opened up in downtown Davis. Bistro 33 - its opposite Davis Wheelworks. I recommend both venues for any out of towners.

Cheers, Paul
