I was just wondering what the requirements are for progressing from CAT 5 to 4 and 4 to 3 in California. Is the first step (i.e. from 5 to 4) only a matter of completing a certain number of races? Thanks for your help.

I’m not aware that CA is any different from the rest of the country. So, going from 5 to 4 requires the completion of 10 mass start races. Going from 4 to 3 requires 20 points earned in mass start races.

I would think it’s the same as in the rest of the country (except colorado where I heard they have no Cat-5’s :).
cat 5>4… 10 mass start races
cat 4>3… 20 points or 25 mass start races
I usually go here to find out.
There is a rulebook on the usa cycling website that goes over how many points you get depending on the race and field size.
