Cali Doing the Tough Work as Usual!

City council members in Berkeley, California, have voted to update their municipal codes with more inclusive language this week. The new ordinance will see the removal of gendered language such as “manhole” from city codes, with these terms being replaced by gender-neutral alternatives like “maintenance hole.”

I guess all the homeless will now be sleeping over “maintenance holes” to stay warm. Glad we cleared that up.

I am pretty sure that we’ve had the term maintenance hole shoved down our throats since the 90s. Glad to see that Cali is catching up.

Don’t really care about what some city council is doing that won’t impact me or really anyone.

But who or what is Calil?

Ironically apparently the term manhole isn’t gendered in the first place. The man doesn’t refer to a male, but to manual, as in using the hand. Originally applied to small openings that workers could stick their hand through to work on something inside before being extended to sewer covers.

You would think that the Berkeley City Council wouldn’t given he doesn’t even play for the Raiders anymore.

How did they handle “butthole”? I’ll bet that was a sensitive area.
