I tweaked my calf muscle last week in a Sprint Tri and it has been acting up on the bike since. When I am powering through on the pedal especially during the pull it feels as though it is twisting. This only occurs when I am on the smallest cog, when I need to torque up my speed.
For the past 15 years my left calf has always giving me trouble although it really doesn’t effect my running too much. Just the occasional tweak when rolling off my toes.
Looking for suggestions, was thinking of some compression neoprene, or maybe just getting one of those bionic things when they come out.

Umm … how about some REST. Always works at least. Might not be the best for training if you have something big to do. Lastly, google plantaris tendon injuries, read a bit, and see if it seems to apply to you.
Second, after you have had some rest, see a PT. I had calf issues last year. What came about from PT was that I have a 1 cm leg length discrepancy, and a strength issue on the bad side since it doesn’t have to do as much work. After resting quite a bit, he got me doing eccentric calf raises to strengthen the calf, and then some other exercises. There is a big difference though that I did not have issues on the bike. Mine were only on the run.
Thanks Rroof / Bluefan,
Yeah I do really need to see a PT about this. Granted the pain is not throughout my ride only when I use high pedal torque and almost non-existent on the run, but doing anything when you have the fear of injury in the back of your mind limits your ability to perform. And the last couple of rides I have been thinking it has the potential to lead to a tear / pull of some sort if I don’t have it checked out.
