Caffeine - how much is too much?

I’d like to limit my daily caffeine intake…so I can use it to my advantage on race day. How much is “too much” in a normal day?

Aside fromt the obvious (water, milk, etc), what alternative do you use in place of Diet Coke? Sugar Free KoolAid? Diet Sprite?

I am a huge fan of diet cream soda and diet root beer.

In my case, I have 3-4 Diet Cokes per day.

Do you feel this increases your “tolerance” of caffeine to the point where your body doesn’t recognize it in competition?

I have as strong cup of real espresso every morning. Then, mineral water and fresh fruit juices. Any processed alternatives are no good. Two weeks before a race I stop drinking coffee. Then, on the morning of the race two cups of coffee and I am like a tiger. Some coke during the race and I am breaking records.

caine or cola?

cola!

Caffeine is the only drug I take. I do not take any other drugs. I don’t drink alcohol and I don’t even take other legal performance boosting crap and any other foods that comes in powder. I have not been gifted with the genes to allow me to ever be an elite athlete. I do it for fun, fitness and health. I find it absolutely pointless to use anything that may damage my health.
