Caesar Creek Tri, Waynesville, OH

Anyone racing here on July 8th? Recommended campgrounds/places to stay in the vicinity? Thanks in advance.

J.C

Yup, I’ll be racing there. I’m sure many here will be including: MarkinCin, Kittycat, spot, Mark Lemmon, Newbz?, OH - among a few

I live close enough to just drive up, so I can’t comment on where to camp

I’ll be there…there are numerous campgrounds around C. Creek…I’ll take a look and see what’s closest.

Spot

There are sites at the state park right there…google c creek state park and it will take you to the website. Can’t comment on how nice it is.

Spot

yes, i’ll be there; this is my favorite tri event.
everything about it is beautiful; especially the bike course.
in fact, i remember having an in-depth discussion with Doug Stern about how lime green the water is during the race…it’s so peaceful and lucid.

FWIW, in addition to camping there are some hotels around king’s island…this is about 15 minutes away; they’re all pretty decent from what i can see.

There’s a good chance I’ll be there. I usually just drive down from Columbus the morning of, but sometimes I stay at the Holiday Inn/Conference Center at I-71 and SR-68 (advertised as “Wilmington”) about 15 minutes north of the race site. It’s a decent place with a full-service restaurant on site. There’s nothing else at all around, but if you’re looking for just a place to sleep, it’s fine for those coming from the north.

As a loyal team HFP member, I should tell you about the great deal you can get at Great Wolf Lodge! Fun for the entire family. See the HFP website for details.

roof,

i’ll be there as well as my g/f and another guy i race with here. i think we are driving down morning of, not sure which race i am doing though.

which one are you doing?

I’m coming up from Columbia SC. Too bad they don’t give a farthest distance travelled award! It’s a great race and there are not a lot of July races in South Carolina. Plus I ran my best race there in '06 and would like to run it again to see where I compare. Plus, it’s always good to get in on an HFP race when I can

I’m staying with my friend in Springboro.

Is there going to be an ST get together?

.

I’m going to be there and maybe I can meet some of you. Since at DATT you all were done and gone to shower and eat before I finished  I’ll just drive in the morning of the race but it is a nice area to camp in.

Chris

Yup - would love to meet. I’ll likely be the only one on a black Planet X with Blue Wheelie Fun 1 piece. Will save you some food

Does anyone have an idea of what the water temp is? With the weather you all have been having, it looks like it could be a no-wetsuit race.

I just swam up there last weekend in a long john wetsuit and was a little warm. I’d wager a guess it was 76-78 degrees so it will be close. Remember, if you are worried, you can still wear a wetsuit, you just won’t be eligible for prizes, etc. up to 82 degrees I think.

i think it will be wetsuit legal, as we’ve had some downpours recently, which should help with the temp.
just wear sleeveless!

Any updates on the water temp? I hope to meet some ST’ers while I am there.

alright, i’m not going to be there, as i’m opting for a 100 miler that i’ve been invited to that starts out of Northern Kentucky. really hate to miss this race and all you guys, but the 100 is better for the IM looming ahead. :frowning:

gotta do what i gotta do, IM is a pain in the ass sometimes.

HFP Man will also be on the start line for the sprint race. This is the site of my very first triathlon in 1988. BTW - M Lemmon was sporting side burns and a Dave Scott stash at that event.

HFP Man

I haven’t been up there, but we did finally get some rain and cooler temps. I’d wager it will be wet suit legal, but warm. Might want to wear a sleeveless if you have one.

Shannon/HFP man - you did take the Oregonia road “beast” hill out this year, right? Boy, that was fun one year …

The “Beast” is gone but the Middletown Road hill is a monster also around mile 12. http://www.hfpracing.com/pdf/course_maps/caesarcreek_course07.pdf
