my last thread got off on water bottles so I thought I would try again. Can anyone suggest a good cycle computer with cadence and the normal speed stats. I don’t need heart rate and I want it under $100 and wireless. The cheaper the better, but I want quality.
this is only for my tri bike.
Maybe try a cateye v2c, it’s at the upper limit if your price range. I’ve never tried it, but always had luck with their computers. Will probably be picking one up in the next week or two for my new ride.
Don’t get the VDO CS D3. I got one and it dropped out every couple of minutes. Totally worthless POS. Good thing Performance Bike has a good return policy… No other suggestions in your price range but I got a Forerunner 305 with HRM for $150 that I use for running and biking. Downloadable data, works great, never drops out, etc. The cadence sensor was $35 at Amazon for a total of $185. Think about it…I’ve heard lots of bad things about cheap wireless…
Powertap
.
I use and really like the simple CatEye Astrale 8. I have that one on my road bike and a Mavic Wintech Wireless on my tri-bike. I much rather the CatEye. I think I paid 35 bucks for it. Simple, cheap, and reliable.
sigma 1606L, if they still make them.
I’ve owned all of these-
Cateye Astrale, and Astrale 8 -cheapest, doesn’t record anything.
Garmin Forerunner 305 w/ speed cadence sensor - good if you also want it for running. downloadable.
Powertap - most expensive, but gives wattage
The only of these that was wireless was the Garmin. Wireless is a nice feature, but isn’t a deal maker or a deal breaker in my opinion.
I really like the Cateye V2c. super easy installation. and importantly for me is convenient mount on the stem.
I just got a 2nd one for my new ride.
If you want an integrated HR monitor the V3 is nice, I use a polar for that so not much use to it.
Anyone have a recommendation for a wireless that’s rear-wheel compatible? I would like to have this info during trainer rides.
It seems that a lot of people missed the boat on “under $100” and “wireless”.
I’d go with the Cateye Double Wireless

x2 Easy to use, reliable.
I don’t have one of them, but I’ve heard some mixed reviews of the Cateye Double wireless that wouldn’t make me want to get one - anyway, they’ve since been superseded by the Cateye V2C, but I’m not sure you can get that under $100…
v2c can be had on ebay for under $100

Wireless sounds good but has its problems: dropping out, extra batteries. I decided to switch back to my wired computer since I found it performed better.

Can you tell me how you got Performance to take your VDO CS D3 back, and how you got your money back? I got mine from performance too, and it constantly drops out, especially the cadence. Your Garmin Forerunner 305 works for biking too (not just running)? That sounds amazing to me, since I don’t like the VDO and I was going to buy a Garmin anyhow. Can you please explain how this works? Thanks!!!

Cateye Astrale 8.
Simple, cheap, and reliable(wireless is not reliable 100% of the time, but the astrale is wired). 6000 miles over 2 bikes(previous hit by a car) and 3+ seasons – no maintenance or battery replacement. Fits on strange shaped tubes.
I just got the Cat Eye double wireless and am having trouble finding a good place to mount it. I don’t have enough space between where the stem comes up and my aerobars. How did you set yours up?
I have the Cateye Astrale 8 on two bikes. Although wired, easy to install, easy set-up, cheap and easy to find replacement harnass in case your LBS rips the wires when replacing a bottom bracket.
I’ve got two Sigma 1606L wireless computers. One is still in the packaging as I got a Garmin 305 for Christmas.
One’s still sealed, one I took off the bike.
How about $25 for the open one (all parts and instructions with it)
$30 for the sealed one.
PM me if you’re interested.
