By the power of ......polar?

Ok, so I a ready to make the jump to a power meter for my bike, and maybe a new heart rate monitor.

Right now I am thinking either the Polar 625 with power sensor, or Power Tap with Polar 520, or maybe just Power Tap, and then use my old heart rate monitor.

So…what’s everyone’s set up? Do you use a power meter and a separate heart rate? Just use one?

I recently purchased the Polar 625x and Polar Power Monitor. I can’t, yet, attest to the accuracy of the power monitor. However, I can tell you it did take me a few rides to get it installed correctly. There is a cadence magnet that attaches to your crank arm (near the pedal). It must pass within a certain distance of the monitor mounted on your chain stay. I had trouble clearing the front derailleur while maintaining a signal. I eventually got it just so. But it was a pain in the butt. Other than this pesky issue, I really like the potential of the system. The running system is outstanding and provides a ton of great information. When I use the power meter a little more, I’ll report back.

Cheers,

Dan

P.S. This was installed on a 2004 Cervelo Team Soloist

Polar, Power Tap, and SRM all have integrated heart rate monitors. I’m not sure about Ergomo.

Big problem with the Polar is that it only records once every five seconds (at best) this can give some mighty erratic numbers on the road, although not so bad on a trainer.

Also, the 652SX basically sucks.

Can you use the power tap and SRM heart rate monitor off the bike? Also, does it use the same “standard” as polar…like, could I wear a polar watch and chest strap, and have the SRM or Powertap unit register the hrm?

No ways, I love my 625x. The power meter is cool but I don’t really know how to use it properly and because of that it’s kinda just dead weight on my bike right now. Took it off last night and will debate training with power later this season. The S720, S625x watches are great watches in my opinion at least. They do everything you need, big screen adn great new chest strap.

Ergomo has an integrated HRM.
