Anyone know of any places to buy a wetsuit within a few hours of Hershey? I assume I should find a shop for fitting, but I know of no tri shops at all in this region. Thanks.
Philadelphia or Baltimore would be fine.

There’e a couple of places in the Philly area, Bikeline in Wayne has a tri area and a guy there who races. He should be able to help. I’m pretty sure there’s a good place in Baltimore but I can’t remeber the name.
Tom,
Do you live in Hershey? I live right behind the Medical Center and ride with the Hershey Theature group (St. John, Kiefer, Tafuto, etc.).
Tafuto is still riding? I rode with him years ago and he could go!
Actually I live just down the road near Annville. Do you guys go for any long rides on the weekends. I’d love to join you, those 3-5 hour rides get awfully boring. Do you know of any tri shops witin a few hours?
Yep, he is still alive and going very very fast. He doesn’t race any more because of the business he created and runs, but he still hammers on training rides and some relays.
Oh yeah, he got a new bike too so now he is going even faster.
Sure thing! We’d love the company.
On the weekends, depending on the weather, we do rides from 20-90ish miles. We also have a guy who is training for two Ironmans this season who would love to have you on the really really long rides. It is a great group of people ranging between ages of 17 (myself) to 52 of all abilities numbering up to 20 people for a summer afternoon ride. Drop me an e-mail, you can get the adress in my profile, and I will spread your name around. We also XC mountain bike as well.
As for the tri-shops, there is Tri-Speed just outside of Baltimore. I have never been there but have heard it is decent. As for locally, check out Bushey’s just across the river from Harrisburg. It isn’t triathlon specific but they can order in anything and will match the price of any store, including Tri-Speed. Mike Kuhn, one of the owners of the shop, and the rest of his crew there are the most knowledgeable and nicest people in bike shops that you will ever come across. I’d suggest you check it out and ask for Kuhndog. Tell him I sent ya.
I got my de Soto through my LBS, but many posters here rave about the service from them and they have a 14 day return policy. They were very helpful when I phoned them about sizing.
Dan and Tom seem to love them, based on their postings.
On another thread, right now,Tom indicates that you can get the de Soto from Slowtwitch. Read that thread.
I’m over in Mechanicsburg. I’d love to hook up for some long rides with you guys.
What size are you looking at? I just bought a used full suit off a guy in mechanicsburg and he had a 2nd newer one also for sale.
I ordered my sleeveless last year from ProMotion. They’ll take it back and send you another if you find it doesn’t fit. Their prices are really good for new suits. www.wetsuit.com.
Good day. I’m over here in Ephrata! Been running for several years and just decided to jump into tris. Bought a QR Kilo a couple weeks ago at Keswick Bike shop in Glenside. (Took just over an hour on the turnpike) They are about to build a section in their shop dedicated to triathlon products! The first of it’s kind in Philly area. Anyway, they do carry QR wetsuits in stock for you to try on… There is also Bicycles BiKyle in that geographic direction, but not sure if they carry wetsuits…
On a different note, anyone suggest any local tris coming up this year in our area. All I’ve found is the one at Mt. Gretna (Sprint tri) at the end of May.
There is a Mt. Gretna Xterra race coming up in August. There is also the Pinchot (Sp?) State Park one and the Lancaster Tri. Try Trifind.com
Lancaster olympic distance - 1st week in Sept.
Anthracite - Olympic distance - Jim Thprpe - July 18
X-terra - almost olympic distance - Mt. Gretna - Aug 8th
registration hasn’t opened for X-terra or Lancaster yet but Anthracite is open at active.com
What size are you looking at?
I don’t know what sizes they come in but I’m 175 lbs. about 40 inch chest, 31 inch inseam, and 33 inch waist. I assume that’s a large if they come in sm, med, and lg.
Is this a full suit or long john?
trispeed is a pretty good bet. it’s in timmonium (sp?) maryland, sort of between baltimore and d.c. its a pure tri-shop so its fun just to poke around and look at stuff… buy some little crap you don’t even need…etc. their staff (what i’ve seen of them) is knowledgeable and helpful. and i believe they carry a couple different brands.
its worth checking the website anyway.
the best site i’ve found for races in our area is www.transitiontimes.com
its homepage has a map of the U.S. click on your state, then scroll down the resulting page towards the bottom for the “races” category. i’ve found it to be a pretty exhaustive listing for the nj, pa, de, and md race scenes.
