I am looking into buying a new Specialized Transition Pro. A local bike shop has an 08 for $3200 or I could order an 08 Transition Pro frameset from the U.K. for £1000 and then build it up from there. Which option do you think is best??
3200 is a really good price, the only thing that would matter is if if has the specialized crank then it has the integrated bottom bracket so you are only using that crank. If you want to use a different crank they you probably want to get the frame and build it up how ever you want.
Actually, the Specialized integrated crank is a BB30, so you can use BB30 SRAM Red or any number of high-end FSA cranks. There is also an adapter available that will allow you to run any standard external bearing crank (FSA, Campagnolo, Shimano…) on that frame.
Specialized was one of the early users of BB30, they just don’t like to tell anyone that.
Kevin
the transition pro does not come with a BB30 bottom bracket, but a regular BSA bottom bracket.
by the way where can you find the transition pro frameset for £1000?
Is 1000 british pounds a good deal??? The place i was looking at includes shipping to California for that price
I think a pound is almost two us dollars
.
That sounds expensive then!! There is a guy on the classifieds selling an 09 Pro for $2000, but all the red is to overpowering
correction one british pound is about $1.50 us
.
Thanks for the conversion rate info. Sounds like I could build a bike with better components doing it this way and just buying the frame
I think you are misinformed. The Pro frame has a BB30 bottom bracket whereas the Comp and Expert do not.
FRAME Specialized FACT 7r N’Aero tube shaping, triple monocoque construction, compact aero geometry, vertical seat adjustment, OS BB
So if I buy the Pro frame then I will need the BB30 bottom bracket pressed in? Doesnt seem like a huge issue just as long as I buy a BB30 crankset right? I guess the whole point of this is whether or not I should buy the Pro frame or the bike already built! I thought the pro frameset for 1000 British pounds was a good deal, but I am second guessing the purchase. I also dont want to buy the pre built one for $3200 and pay sales tax to then sell the wheelset and aero bars.
I believe you just need a BB30 compatible crankset.
yes you are right! thanks for the correction.
yes it’s a good deal! the exchange rate is about 1.41 the last time i checked so you’d be looking at ~$1450 for a Specialized transition pro frameset while the Spez website lists it at $2500.
I’m in the UK and i don’t see anywhere selling it for less than £1450.
Edit: nevermind… it’s from Primera Bournemouth isn’t it… those guys are great to deal with. just make sure to talk to them in person to check that they have your size.
In Gear Cycle in the U.K. also has the frameset for a similar price. Both seem like good options and the best way to go.
i have a 08 transition comp 51cm in my shop for $2900 new.
105 cranks , ultegra derraileur, zipp handlebars, mavic wheels
Thanks for the offer, but I am looking at the Pro model or S-works if I can justify the price increase. You have any transition framesets you are looking to get ride of? i would like to build up a bike so I am not stuck witht he stock specialized components.
no sorry
