I live 450 miles from the nearest FISTer. If I go get a bike from this individual, my local bike shop (which is decent) should be able to work on it with no problems, right?
Sure…as long as the closer shop doesn’t mess with the fit.
This is my situation. I have two Cervelos and at the time I bought them, there was no dealer in SF. I take them to my LBS and they happily work on them.

I’ve got 2 bikes that I bought from Sampson that no one around here carries. Before I bought the bikes I went into my LBS and talked to them. I asked if they would have a problem setting up the bikes and helping me with repairs/maintainance/etc. They were fine with that and happy that I would talk to them first. I’ve had nothing but great service from them since.
Shouldn’t be a problem. Your LBS will probably make more money on service than they would have on the bike sale.
