Buoyancy shorts all the time?

And having exclusively trained in neoprene shorts when pool swimming for the last five years, I find I’m faster now when I wear jammers because my body learned a better position as a result.

I’m not sure how that has happened for you. I would imagine most people would have the opposite experience. For a lot of people they have to work to maintain good body position, decent kick, tense tummy muscles, force sternum down, head down, swim downhill etc you don’t have to do any of those things when swimming with core pants. So why would you suddenly know to do all those things when you put jammers on? There is no muscle memory. That’s why they are called cheater pants, they allow you to get good body position with no knowledge of how to do it and/or requiring no work.

And why are they called CHEATER pants with a negative connotation?!? On race day do we wear Cheater wetsuits? Lol! You sound exactly like the people calling carbon-plated running shoes cheater shoes. Am I also cheating using a disc wheel. People in the swim world need to stop this craziness. It’s like arguing we should be cutting our lawns with the old scissor blade manual lawnmowers! Let’s learn to run barefoot before we put cheater rubber soled running shoes on!

C’mon Guys and Gals! We’re not swimming the 50 freestyle competition. This is the sport of Triathlon where the swim is just the warm up for the Bike and the Run. Terrible swimmers win races and Triathlon Championships all the time!!!

If you’re a regular AG’er reading this, don’t let the swim purists fool you.

You totally changed my mind!
How didn’t I see this?

You don’t need to waste that time at the covid-restricted pool. Forget those Masters swimmers wasting their time paddling in place in speedos and going nowhere!

You just need the occasional ‘form-check’ wearing neo- and bio-prene when racing those speedo swimmers at Masters practice.

Train smarter, not harder!

Who said occasional? Not me sir. I said “less volume”. And the less volume part was due to work travel, it wasn’t purposeful. You still have to swim consistently regardless if you’re skinny-dipping or wearing the notorious Water Rovers!!! Well actually, if we could wear Water Rovers… nevermind!! LOL!!! LOL!!

For the record: I Love Swimming! I really do enjoy it. And I enjoy pool swimming more in neoprene shorts than jammers! #nevertakingmycheaterpantsfromme
