I spread the dropouts on the frame and I am in business. The bike handles well, but the lack of bullhorns makes it feel a teeny bit squirelly. Imagine being back in the day and riding Boardman’s Hour bike- no real bull horns and a fixed gear!
This bike would be illegal for all but the local TT’s, but it is a bunch of fun. I may ditch the idea of the C2 on a centre section of handlebar and go more traditional- a Scott 100K bar.
Rear mech shifts well, and the rear mech plate made of carbon does not make a bit of difference in shifting, though the parts I put on it (SRP bling-bling and my carbon mech plate) saved it about 75 grams.
I gotta put this thing on a scale. I think the steel threaded fork, Giant adjustable stem, and dual disc wheels makes this thing a bit portly.
Cool beans Bunnyman…but I must have missed some initial postings regarding the project. Track only purpose or is it stable enough in your hands to ride outside? And what’s with that funky base bar? A nice coat of flat black paint (for the stealth look) and some carbon fiber gussets arouns the joints (for added effect) and you’ll be good to go. Nice job man.
I would repaint it, but the bike was used in National Championships in the mid-to-late '90s. The carbon gussets would look cool, however, and Iwould make some interesting ones.
I did ride it outside. It is not a legal track bike from the virtue that it has changeable gears and brakes, though this bike was used on the track, as well. The bars aren’t that bad, but feel a bit weird. You just have to hold onto the arm rests to get going.
I may change those bars out for some old 100K ones I have in the garage.
It is a PAL/SECAM/ CCIR/NTSC VCR from the mid ‘80s. This is how mr and mrs bunnyman watch shows like “the Vicar of Dibley” and “Only Fools and Horses”, amongst other shows from Ol’ Blighty.
But it is time for a new converter system. We want one that is only a converter so we have the freedom to watch any media we want, whether it be VHS or DVD.
After I purty it up, let some very important people who helped out with this project personally see it, race it a couple of times, I am selling it in E-bay. This bike has seen some interesting times, and has been configured in many, many ways. I did widen the dropouts to allow for a modern drivetrain. This is what I would call a “tuned bike”, which is not at all unlike the concept of a fully-custom configured bike, only I have adapted some interesting parts for an entirely new purpose. Yes, that is one brake lever operating two brakes. I would have a Bartol, but this thing only has four gears. And the most interesting part of it is that the rear skewer is not intended for aero use is now a great match for the screw-on front wheel.
The brake lever actuates a cable doubler. The main cable goes into a casing that holds a devise that ends up pulling another cable, henceforth pulling two cables. It is not the quickest stop around, but I set it up for 75% front, 25% rear braking bias.
It is all for speed, man. Seriously, this is for the perfect day with no wind. I finally test rode the bike on a slightly windy day, and it was a bit dodgy.
I have a seriously modified Shimano 600 rear mech, using SRP bling bling bolts and a carbon fibre rear jockey pulley plate. The rear mech hanger bolt and the jockey pulley bolts were frankly the best use of the SRP aluminium bolts, in my opinion. If I can get a machnist to machine the pivot for the front jockey pulley plate, I may make it like the new Record rear mech (out of carbon, as well). It is an 8 speed, shifting only four gears (14, 13, 12, 11), and lots of spacers.
How hard would it be to make the body of the rear mech to also be Carbon like the new record… Gotta say on the new record the almost full carbon derailer looks really cool…
Are you planing on putting Carbon fairing around the rear triangle? Maybe you can make the faired seat cover like Indurain rode in the tour… that would be cool, maybe not functional but definately cool How about a front “wing” that could cover up the aerobars, which your arms could fit inside of.
Well, the seat is DEFINITELY not done, yet. I have a trick or two with that thang. This is merely the seat I am showing for now. But the bike is not finished, and neither is the seat.
I may even make a one piece monocoque aerobar for this, though it would kinda ruin the theme. Admittedly, the 100K keeps looking better and better.
I do not have the machinery or patience to make the paralllelogram out of carbon- the Campy almost carbon rear mech is extremely cool.
I am going to not fair the frame, as it would disturb the historical aspect of the frame. This is why it will not change from it’s azzure livery.
