Anyone been diagnosed with a bulging disc in their lower neck, possibly from cycling and poor posture? I’m told regular exercises can fix this, can anyone confirm? Thanks a lot.
You’ll have to be more specific and give us more info. What are your symptoms. Do you have neck pain, tightness, headaches, pain or numbness in your arms/hands? When do you get symptoms and doing what activities? Generally these types of problems can be helped by a chiro or PT along with an exercise regime. You can also get a home traction unit that goes over the door. I recommended them to some of my chiro patients and had good results. In rare severe cases surgery may be recommended, but that should only be a last resort.
Also realize that some bulging discs are asymptomatic, meaning that there is no associated symptoms and people aren’t even aware that they have them.
Give more info. I’m hitting the sack now and can reply back tomorrow.
Same diagnosis after MRI, I’ve had this at C5 or C6 and it was kind of weird because it initially manifested itself as shoulder pain that was so bad I could not sleep well for a long time. Eventually could not ride with hands in the drops safely because when I looked up far enough to see the road ahead it hurt like heck in the neck. Then other symptoms - my arm started to hurt constantly from the shoulder to the elbow and some of my fingers went numb or tingly.
It just got better after three months with PT and some antiinflammatories, not really sure if it was just the time or if the PT and antiinflammatories helped - I tried everything in the first week or two of pain before seeing a doctor. The PT showed me stretches and exercises but honestly I only do some of the stretches now but it hasn’t come back.
This originated with no pain, just tingling in right hand. Incompetent doc said Carpal Tunnel. Wrong. Went to PT yesterday. He says classic symptoms to bulging disc. Right arm is weaker than left. Stiffness and some pain in right/upper back. After just one day of exercises and improving posture, back is stiff, which he says is good sign (I’m making the correction). I’m just hopeful this can be fixed w/ PT.
I think you’re making the right move. Stay with the PT for awhile and see how it works out. Was this disc bulge confirmed by an MRI?
I had something in the neck from I guess age, and it would kill me all the way down to the hand.
I went into PT for many months, and got a number or exercises to do.
Took a long time to go away, and comes back once in a while.
Even though this was 10 years ago, I continue to try and do some of the exercises.
Also, good posture is important.

I’ve been battling this similar problem for 2 years…epideral shot, PT, anti-inflammatories, massages, etc…lately Glucosomine tablets have been helping quite bit. You can get them at any local vitamin store or even Walgreens.
