Build out brake caliper question

I’m about finished building out a road bike (Giant TCR w/OuzoPro fork and DA/Ult component blend, & nice Velomax wheels), but as I ponder which brakes to get, help me understand something.

DA or Ult calipers are over 300g and rather expensive. I can get some (cough) Tektro 423As for $40 that are less than 200g. Being in FL, descents are nonexistent, so I don’t need drastic stopping power.

  1. Are the Tektro’s any good?
  2. Will I be outed as a tektro dork?
  3. Should I care?

get the Tektros and some good pads…hell, I will send you free black tektros is you really want em.

Heck, if he doesn’t want them, I’ll take them.

“get the Tektros and some good pads…”

I use the Kool Stop pads. They seem quite good. What would be your recommendation Record?

Koolstop, Campy or Shimano pads…good shimano pads, the two part ones like DA have. Koolstop is #1 though - Zipps pads are nice too (they are Koolstops though)

You are a dork and it has nothing to do with your brakes.

You don’t go fast enough to need brakes.

I am envious of your 'fro.

If you’re offering them, I’ll take them! The price to weight ratio just went WAY down. I have another post regarding a P3 frame, so feel free to go there, too.

Simple Stevie is half right-I’m not fast enough for brakes, but brakes are for wussies anyway, right?
