Bruised hip two days before race

Hi guys,

Racing my first 70.3 on Sunday and was knocked off my bike by a wayward car this morning - landed heavily on my side.

Got a bit of road rash, but main concern is pain in my hip. Nothing broken (other than my phone… :frowning: ) but was wondering whether anyone had any amazing tips to speed up any recovery process to pain in the area?

Thanks in advance!

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Short answer from me is nope, can’t help. Raced with tegaderm on my hip to stop it from getting chafed/infected, but can’t help with the bruising.

Damn.

How did the race go? Did it cause any great issues (and if so, where mostly)?

I am most concerned about how it will affect my run - I think it will loosen up a bit on the bike, and my kick is useless anyways…

Can’t remember it causing too much issue but it was an olympic and not HIM. I am usually against taking painkillers during an endurance event due to the potential to cause kidney problems if you’re dehydrated, but this would be one situation where I would take some painkillers before the race. And I think the risk of kidney problems is much less in a HIM than a full IM. In the next two days just try and keep mobile, sitting around alot may make it swell up more. Might be worth taking some anti inflammatories for the next couple of days to manage potential swelling.

you can get some homeopathic arnica pellets at the health food store. they work wonders for bruises, strains and sprains. really speeds up the healing. and no side effects.
