Well I have been fighting ankle pain for 6 weeks or so. It gets better then I push it and it hurts like hell again for another 3 or 4 days. Well finally broke down, quit the self diagnosis, and went to the podiatrist. After x-rays, she walks in and asks me if I have fallen or had any other sort of accident around 6 weeks ago? Nope, just went for a run on a dirt road and that is about when I started having pain. Well that is because you broke your fibula, moron, she tells me. Well, to be far, she left out the moron part, lol.
So no wonder the 2 mile run I did last Thursday hurt like hell. She tells me that its about 75% healed, but that it will take another 3 weeks for it to properly heal. I can swim or bike till then, but no running, eliptical or stair climbing.
On a good note, she did put me in some new inserts that should help with other aches and pains I get after running.
So to borrow a quote from Khai, If you are going to be stupid, you’d better be tough.
Damn dude, way to push through. I hope it doesn’t lead to any permanent pain or loss of ROM. What exactly did you break? I’ve heard its possible to fracture the lateral malleolus (bump on the outside of the ankle) and still be able to move around.
I just sprained my R ankle last Friday, so can definitely commiserate, just not to the same level. Heal fast!
I feel you, dog. I suffered a metatarsal stress fracture in my L foot in November and only found out in late December - after I had it X-rayed and a doctor told me the injury was almost completely healed. I felt about the way you must have when you heard your doctor. The pain was excruciating, I went through November and December without any running. I am much more alert to my body now, thank goodness. Better to skip a week than lose two months.
Get well soon, and don’t worry too much about performance loss. Your biking and swimming will keep you fit over the next 2-3 weeks, and the rest will come back quickly once you start running again.
I broke the fibula just above the lateral malleolus. Doc said it may have started as a stress fracture but then about 6 weeks ago gave way and cracked all the way through.
And here I broke my fibula and had to have a plate installed and a cast for 6 weeks. But on the upside, it healed perfectly and I was back in former running shape within a couple of months.
My bud at work sprained his ankle in a hockey game in early January. Since i’ve had injury/sports (what ever you want) arthritus in my left ankle for years, and two surgeries along with it, I told him not to ‘superman’ it.
But, like the rest of us, he did, it extended his recovery by about 2 weeks. Sounds like ol’ BB already supermanned it - wow…
