i’m doing brigantine tomorrow - my 5th time racing it. i love this race! anyone else doing it? if so… good luck!
where does it take place, whats the distanct and what date does it take place on?
Brigantine, New Jersey (right by Atlantic City)
it’s a sprint… 1/4 mi swim / 11 mi bike / 4 mile run
all flat.
it was my first triathlon (back when i was 17… i’m 23 now). every chance i get to go back i do. love the race.
i believe its always the first saturday in august.
Have fun, I prefer the Genesis. Better pizza. This year, I have to skip, because I promised my son I would enter him in the kids’ race. I’ll still be there, trying to take embarrassing pictures of Ken, so I can post them here.
Who is this??
ever since the screwed up my race and did not offer me a refund I refuse to go back. In 2002 (I think) I had a great race…went just over 55 minutes for the sprint and they totally lost my results. It was like, “I didn’t even do the race.” “No record of any of my times!”
It wasn’t the fact that they lost my results. I had fun and enjoyed the race. But I got very disapointed when the race director refused to grant me entry into the next seasons race. The director even refused to reply to my e-mails even after I sent in copies of my cleared check. Just blew me off as if I didn’t exist. AND I had brought 6 people into that race that year. I was kind of disapointed that they sold me out that way.
but good luck. It is a fun little sprint. Have fun and kick ass…I might go watch. But they are not getting my money this season. I’m running in Sea Isle tomorrow night…
Did it twice in the mid-90s. Nice race. Hope to get back for it sometime.
Genesis is the weekend after. I’ll be there…I love that race. The bike is great a freaking hammer fest! c u there…
well, i doubt i’ll go 55 (last year i went… 68? 69?) but, hopefully i’ll do well.
sorry to hear about your bad experience there… like i said this was the first tri i’d ever done and each year i seem to like it more. i don’t know the race director… but, the race itself, i think, is pretty damn nice.
I also like Genesis. I won my age group there a couple of years ago, so it’s a particular favorite! (This was due to lack of competition, not an abundance of talent.) I can’t do it this year because I’m returning from a week of vacation that day, but am doing Lum’s Pond the following day. Lum’s Pond is a good race, too.
Haven’t tried Brigantine yet, but did a sprint in Bridgeton a couple of weeks ago. Small town, decent race, well organized, good food!
i did diamondman last year (the swim is in lums pond)… nice lake. nice race. i imagine the lum’s pond tri is just as good.
The key to that race is hammering the bike as hard as you can and then hammering the run harder. I think tomorrow will be really windy. At the turn around, you can see who is coming up and who is ahead of you plain as day. This I like…Good luck.
yeah, i like the turn around too… gives me a good idea where i’m at. you’re probably right about the wind - but, it won’t be hot for a change (which is good). i’ll do my best and give a race report tomorrow.
good luck to everyone racing this weekend.
I’m doing Diamondman this year for the first time. The bike course is flat? I recall that the bike for Lum’s Pond is flat.
the bike for diamondman is ALMOST all flat. there is a nice climb over a bridge about 18 miles into the bike. not killer but if you’re not expecting it it could hurt you. don’t forget… you have to come back over the bridge too.
otherwise the bike course is flat.
i’ll be there tomorrow - small world. hoping for a 1:05, but my bike legs may still be flat from LP 2 weeks ago. i’ll be racing in the 25-29 AG. i’ll be sporting a blue cervelo top, and blue p2k if you want to find me and say hi. i’m on a crappy internet connection right now and might not catch any responses later. hope to see you at the race.
Rich Sumida
well rich… if you see a guy with a dragon tattoo on his arm… that’s me.
like i said… i went around 1:08 - 1:09 last year. i’m hoping i’ll do better this year. a 1:05 sounds very good so what do you say i find you at the start and you pace me!
sorry, didn’t catch this email last night. did well, 1:07:33. not as much zip as i’d like on the bike leg, and it sucked that we didn’t really catch any tailwinds after going through the headwinds for a good part of the course. and being in heat 1, i was running by myself most of the way through. i’m interested in seeing how the splits fell out when they post it. how did your race turn out?
well, brigantine was interesting. did well… dropped 3:08 from my time last year. 1:06:02 overall.
once again i really enjoyed everything… great course/volunteers/food etc.
since i took 3rd in my age group last year i expected to get an award this year. go to the awards ceremony and find out… nope no award. so, i figure the competition must have been tougher. oh well.
check the results when they’re posted last night on compuscore… i took 2nd in my age group. and, didn’t get my award. SO… we’ll see what happens. i’m in the process of trying to contact the race directors. we’ll see! hopefully this doesn’t turn out like the other dudes quest to get his rightfully earned award.
by the way… i saw that you also took 2nd in your age group… congratulations!
great race! i wish i could have been able to pace off of YOU!
I did this one 3 times. It was my first also. Best time 1:19. My best friend lives on 16th St. South. D’Wife has embargoed it since 2002, however, because it always falls on our anniversary weekend.
