Brews in Colorado

I am in Boulder for a few days. What are some of the better stouts or barley wine style beers by local brewers. There are so many different chioces and I don’t have many days to try them all.

Two of my favorite locals are Avery Brewing Company - good brown ale, don’t know about stout. And Mountain Sun - Java Porter.

Oasis Zoser Stout used to be the best around, but I think they’ve closed.

Come by Colorado Multisport at 27th and Spruce and we’ll give you a free CMS/Cervelo P4 pint glass to enjoy your favorite brews in! Blake has some recommendations on some of his local haunts as well. Is it still Stout month at the Mountain Sun on Pearl? You should go there!

Try New Belgium beers if you like Belgium style brews, they stand up well to the Belgium brews I drank while living in Holland

I like their MotherShip Wit and their Trippel trappest style beer. Their fat tire is also a good ale

A 6 pack at the local bottle shop should be about $7 or $8. PS> The tripple is about 8% so one to drink at home!

Try Fat Tire

.

Hasn’t Fat Tire essentially become the Budweiser of micros. It’s not even really local anymore.

I agree on the other New Belgians, but Fat Tire has become ubiquitous.

What’s the scottish ale out of Lyons in the can? Old Chum or something? That’s pretty good.

I love the food at Walnut Brewery for a nice dinner. The beers are good, but I dont remember the Stouts… Mountain Sun was pretty good, too. A bit cheaper, but stay away from there during happy hour- it is SLAMMED.

O’Dells from Ft. Collins is typically good across the board.

Blue Moon Witbier from Coors also goes down easy

Thanks Geoff, I’ve used mine most evenings this week

I believe that AVery Brewing Co. had a porter that got a silver medal at the GABF. Not a stout, but close… Try the Boulder Brewing Co. warehouse bar out on Valmont and 32nd (or so). I really don’t like the New Belgium 1554, as someone else recommended. Mountain Sun is generally good, as is Avery and Lefthand.

The best have already been listed.

In Boulder
Mountain Sun: I think Stout month is about to end, but they have killer beer, and some pretty good burgers. I always get what they have on nitro tap.
Walnut Brewery: They have great beers, and I think they have better food then Mountain Sun

Front Range
Blue Moon: A personal favorite, I drink lots of this
O’dell: Favorite Brewery, available all over the Front range, anything from them is good

I am a fan of the New Belgium 1554 as well as Fat Tire, but I like the 1554 better. Unfortunately I can’t get either in WI yet.

Sunshine Wheat is one of my fav’s

Thanks for all the tips on beers. I had many on the list tonight. All very good. Tomorrow I will try more!

Here’s my list of the places I’d go, given that you’ll probably want to head down to Pearl Street this evening. Mountain Sun is a must-do for the brews and the food is great as well. You won’t be disappointed. I’d hit up Walnut Brewery, which is on Walnut Street one block South of Pearl and is a half block West of Broadway. They have a number of beers that are brewed there, I’m not sure what is on special right now. After that head to the West End, they usually have good local stuff on offer. The bar upstairs from The Kitchen is really good, no local brews that I know of, but if you’re still in the mood after hitting up the other places, they have good Belgian beer on offer and a cool atmosphere.
As the others have mentioned, the stuff from Dale’s in Lyons is good if you’re into hoppy beers. 90 Shilling from Odell’s is one of my favorite local beers as well if you have a chance to try that.

I’ve used my P4 pint glass a few times this past week as well!

SIGH

Mmm. Fat Tire. Why did I ever move back east…?

It might be the Bud of micro’s now, but it still hasn’t made it to the east coast. It’d be nice if it did.

You can get it in IL though, only a few miles for me! Plus my sisters always bring me some when they visit from CHI.
