Can anyone recommend some breathable toe covers? I find that when worn during a tri, neoprene toe covers keep my feet wet throughout the bike, which make them marginal for keeping my feet warm.
I’m thinking about IM Florida, it has been in the 40s at the start of the bike leg in the past. I’m also open to other suggestions for keeping the feet warm, I’ve gotten off the bike with completely numb feet before.
If it’s going to warm up some while on the bike I find duct taping the holes around the toes if you have ventilation spots helps to keep the wind off my toes which equals warmer toes. When it warms up just take it off.
That’s brilliant. Cheap and easy to deal with while riding. Thanks!
WTF 40’s isn’t cold, specially when it will heat up quickly in FL, just put socks on and HTFU
.
Last year the mean was 50, and I’ve seen it colder at that race. Didn’t really warm up. Running on numb feet is disconcerting. Feels like stumps with nothing down there. It gets worse when they thaw after 13 miles. Been there, done that.
Duct tape is good, but I also like to wear wool running socks. Even thin ones will do quite a bit at keeping your feet warm while wet and they breathe, so will dry out.
Good idea. I’ll have to find some thin enough to work in my bike shoes, which are fairly tight. Thanks!
I have a pair of Wigwam wool socks that are quite thin and fit in my tight cycling shoes.
All Gore stuff is great.

I’m looking at the Wigwam options, and there are a billion different choices. Any idea which one you have that are so thin?
I am not 100% sure as I bought them last year and the colours aren’t exactly the same this season, but I think this is the one:
It is 30% wool and has a decent bit of stretch so it stays up when I run in them as well. Any of their socks that are listed as light weight and have wool in them would probably be sufficient. Most the “Sports” socks they sell don’t have wool and even have cotton listed. I would avoid all those.
Thanks! I was looking at the sports socks and missed these.
I’ll try several ideas, and in combination. Something is bound to work. I’m tired of cold feet. It is easier to deal with while training, but even that can be improved.
