Brake Cable Problems

My rear brakes are not working correctly. There is a lot of slack in the cable, which I had replaced a month ago. When brake responds when I pull my brake; however, it does not release when let go. This is because there is way too much slack. I would imagine this is an easy fix, but how do I do it? Thanks for your help.

There’s typically a barrel adjuster on the caliper than you can turn to adjust cable tension. However, of there’s that much slack in the cable, you’d be better off just tightening the cable.

Set the barrel adjuster the middle of its range. The cable will end on the caliper near a 5mm bolt. Loosen the bolt so the cable can move freely. Squeeze the brake pads against the rim with your hand and hold them. Pull the cable taunt and tighten the bolt. Use the barrel adjuster to lose the tension a bit so the wheel turns freely.

If it doesn’t release when activated their is a pinch point in the cable housing or a lot of dirt gumming up the system.
