Brain is still leaking

Day 5 of this head cold.

I feel about 85% strength now. but my left nose hole still leaking green goo.

I’ve missed 5 days of training and my Ironman Training Schedule says 3:00 on the bike today.

20 weeks to the “Blue Devil.”

Should I wait until 100% strength or go mashing today?? risk of dragging this cold out longer?

I have severe training guilt.

Standard rule of thumb, if it’s above the neck wait it out.

Basically, you have 20 weeks you will lose very little by taking a few days off.

Dose up with fluids and Vit C, and mom’s chicken soup if you like it. Hope you turn the corner soon.

wait till 100%…
I finished a hard cycle, and immediatly came down with the most brutal sickness ever… i made good friends with the local doctors office because I was in getting checked for strep (twice) and mono (once)… this was the most brutal throat ache ever. Anyhow, I was out for 10 days, and i’ve been gradually getting back, thurs and fri were easy swims, today was an easy hour bike, and tommorow will be an easy swim and run… monday off, and start back my normal cycle again… but I very much stress wait till your 100%… I think mine hit me so hard because a) I was at the end of a cycle, b) had excessive stress build up from just finishing exams, and my body just said enough, and shut down.
Pound the water, Vit C, I use echinasea, and slept about 10 hours/night…thats all i focusd on… just getting better.
hope it works out

While I tend to agree that waiting it out a few days will not kill your training or fitness, the rule of thumb I heard was if your cold is from the neck up you’re okay to train but in the chest you gotta rest.

At any rate, if you get cabin fever too bad and just hafta go out, keep it easy. No intensity.

20 weeks is a long time and you really won’t lost that much fitness.

Go out for 45min to 1hr tops. Just a little spin to get the blood flowing nice and easy like. then go home and take a steam bath.

“the rule of thumb I heard was if your cold is from the neck up you’re okay to train but in the chest you gotta rest.”

Thanks, or the clarification Dan, I obviously wasn’t too clear when I stated "if it’s above the neck wait it out. Some of these things get lost in translation from English.
