Tom is a great QB. One of the greatest I would say. But, THE greatest - I’m not so sure. I might have to say his system/organaization is the greatest ever. With the supporting cast and system he has, he is amazing. Last year he did not have the same support and he was less than terrific. Four SB rings would be rare company.
So, on this Super Bowl weekend, what sayest the ST NFL gurus?
IMO, Dan Marino is the greatest passer that has ever played the position.
Brett Favre is the greatest player to ever play the position.
Brady is in the running for “greatest QB ever”. Right now he lacks the longevity aspect. He has done more (winning) with less offense, and has bee the direct contributing factor for his team’s success in those big wins. He and Montana are in similar statements regarding winning, but Montana had a TON of offensive Hall of Famers on his roster, the Patriots are known for having a bunch of “relacable parts”. Matter of fact, when someone with talent (Deion Branc) wants the lucrative contract he deserves, the organization let him walk … as compared to the 49ers who broke the bank keeping their offensive supertars together.
As I saig, Brady lacks the longevity and career numbers, but he cannot be excluded from the discussion. IMO, he’s passed Montana. Favre, Elway, Unitas, Marino ahead …
With Brady and Manning, ut’s the whole Montana v. marino thing again.
It comes down to winning more than performance when you talk about best ever. Montana was more mobile and a better athlete (6’10 high jumper, very fast), debatably Marino had a quicker release and was deadly accurate, Favre had the longevity and was / is super reliable day in and day out BUT…who would you really want leading your all-time team than a guy who wins day in and day out and is the epitome of a coach-on-the -field leader.
I take Brady as best ever. Five more solid years and just about everyone will say the same thing. Can he do that, who knows, for now I will just take a win tomorrow.
“Maybe I’m just whining because the Pats defeated the Chargers but this pretty much reflects how I feel about their possible undefeated season season:”
Yeah, you are whining, but that seems to be the Charger Way. I love that you can get this “action” figure of Lily Tomlin at ToysRus:
Until this year, Brady did not have anywhere near the offensive weapons of any of the other QBs listed here. Last year his
number one receiver was Reche Caldwell. This year, without a consistent running game, Brady lead the greatest offense
of all time. While his passing TD record of 50 is gaudy, more impressive is his only throwing 8 INTS for a differential of +42, also a record.
If you could pick one QB from throughout history to lead your team, it would be hard to make an argument for anyone else if your goal was to win the SB, knowing what you know right now.

LOL! I wonder how many of those McFarlane sold! If it’s as successful as his KISS and SPAWN line, then he’s even more of a rich mo-fo now.
I ain’t gonna argue about LT being all moody on the sidelines. While I can understand his injury, I can’t understand why he just sat there and not get involved in other ways, though there are those that say that he did, but the tv didn’t catch it. I’m leaving all that stuff alone.

I dunno, just off the top of my head, you can say the same for Joe Montana, Steve Young, Dan Marino, Troy Aikman, and John Elway…
Yes, if you compare their entire careers, that is true. But compare the first 7 years of each of their careers, and there is no question. No other QB has
won 100 games quicker than Brady. Part of Brady’s success is a function of the system he is in, but in each of his 3 SB wins, he has had to orchestrate a last
minute drive to win the game. Until this year, he has had to work with less than stellar talent at the skill positions.
How about Bart Starr? A 17th round draft pick, Starr won league championships in 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966, 1967. He led the NFL in passer rating five times. Starr was the best postseason passer in NFL history, as evidenced by his record 104.8 playoff passer rating. Starr averaged a remarkable 7.85 YPA over the course of his entire career, 8th best in league history, and better than some of the other quarterbacks we’re mentioning in this thread, including Dan Marino (7.37) and Joe Montana (7.52). To cap his career achievements, Starr earned MVP honors in the first two Super Bowls after shredding the best the AFL could throw his way for 452 yards on 47 passing attempts (9.6 YPA). He posted a combined 106.0 passer rating in those two games.
