Boys Ride Out-

We are looking for input on a point system

Mission-
There is nothing better for the soul than some good friends and some good workouts

Goals-
• Get in shape for our annual Palm Springs to Vegas ride in December.
• Tri Bud Bonding
• Get one of our friends back into working out after a few years off due to work and relationship commitments (former 9:45 IMC guy at 150# now pushing almost 200#)

Background-
• 3 long time (I am talking about racing before wetsuits and aero bars, getting close to 50 years old) off and on triathletes and one hammer-head eco challenge type in shape guy (Boise guy).
• 14th Annual Palm Springs to Vegas is coming up and we need some miles

The Plan-
I got the kitchen pass from the Future Wife, the kids are with their mom from Thurs-Sun. so we start on Nov. 3. Our original plan of meeting in vegas for 4 days of workouts with one of our buddies coming down from Boise was nixed due to his work commitment. Revised plan will consist of 4 days in So Cal with a modified plan for the out of shape just starting to return to workouts dude. The Boise dude can play along by doing his own workouts when he returns from his business trip.
Day 1- GMR to Baldy Village loop- Lots of good climbing at an easy pace. I will try to sneak in a Masters Swim workout in the evening to get some extra points on the other guys.
Day 2- Tour de Starbucks- Alta Loma to Del Mar stopping at many Starbucks locations along the way for overpriced but delicious coffee and muffins (about 105 miles). Carry all supplies in a backpack (clean clothes, toothbrush etc.). Out of shape guy will meet us about ½ of the way down.
Day 3- Return along same route (about 105). Short brick run (3 miles)
Day 4- LSD Run on trail (2 hours). Sneak in another swim if possible.

This will all be done at a relatively easy to steady pace. We have done similar type workouts in the past so we know what we are in for. We realize that this might not be the best Tri specific type training to do this time of year but falls more in the category of getting together to do some fun stuff. Play along if you want and post your numbers.

I think that the one that was used for Virtual Epic was-
Swim- 1 point per 100 yds
Bike- 1 point per mile
Run- 4 points per mile
We are going to add- These can be done once at any time during the contest
Jump rope for 2 minutes- 1/5 point per successful clearance of the rope
Pushups in 2 minutes- 1/5 point per pushup
20 free throws- ½ point per made free throw
Weights- ?

Just an observation: if you have already set bike/run workout plan, then the swim workouts decide everything.

Good idea, Thanks Jaylew. Do you think that the point system looks reasonable? Since the Boise Guy doesn’t swim he will want to make up points in the other areas and we want to make it a reasonably level playing field.
