Boston Qualifying as a triathlete

For those of you who have qualified for Boston, I’m curious how many miles/week you ran, and if you also kept up the swim/bike during your marathon training. Or did you just run, and let your swim/bike deteriorate during the marathon training? If so, how long did it take you to regain your swim/bike fitness after your marathon?

Thanks!

Yes, run lots (40-60 miles/week). Swim once/week. Bike once/week. Not that hard to BQ with a good running base.

I swam at least once a week and biked at least twice, also did yoga once a week to stay flexible and work some muscle kinks out.

Swam 5 days a week. Biked 3 days a week. Ran maybe at most 25 miles a week. Going in 08.

1 or 2 swims, 1 or 2 rides. 3 or 4 runs per week. 25 - 30 miles per week average running. Focused on a long run every 3rd week. However, I need to qualify this by stressing that I have always been a runner so my routine is not necessarily sufficient or applicable if you have a different athletic background.

Swim and bike fitness came back in about 6 weeks. Lingering post race fatigue was the biggest issue

I have been running faster than I ever have in my life since I started swimming 5 hours a week.

OK - and this tells us exactly what (in my best Paulo impersonation)?

Last year: Ran 5 days per week (40-45 miles), biked 3 days per week (120 miles), swam 2 x per week. Bike easy most of the time. Kick a bit more in the pool.

Nothing.

It does say, IMO, we are all different.

It does say, IMO, that cross training can help running.

It does say, IMO, that swimming can really make lungs which help on running.

It does say, I have no data to prove, just like no coach can prove they made a difference.

This tells me that he has been running faster than ever since starting swimming 5 days a week.

Pretty clear to me.

That was too easy. I could not have said what I meant.

I think sometimes people may be looking a little too hard for a debate here…

“I really like pepsi with my pizza.”

“What are you trying to say… you think coke is for idiots, that I’m an idiot for drinking coke with my pizza???”

“No… I just like pepsi?”

I hate Pepsi.

Damn you.

I’m going into my closet and am burning all my orange shirts…

Seriously, I hate it. All that cola taste. I can’t understand how people can drink that shit.

I wonder if there is any kind of benefit from swim to run, though. Maybe the general aerobic fitness from swimming helps with running? OTOH, swimmer muscle is just extra weight to carry for running…

Are you a Pepsi lover as well?

I don’t like any soda, too sugary
.

You suck!

that wasn’t nice :frowning:
