i’m trying to figure out how to spend less time before the race in the Athletes village. it seems like the shuttle buses are the only safe way to make sure i get to the start line on time. BUT is there any reason that someone in wave one, cant take the later shuttle buses (6:45-730)? In the “official book”, they say that these Buses are for wave 2, but it still seems like there would be plenty of time to take these buses and still be in wave 1. (as apposed to the 6-6:45 buses)
I am looking into the same question. My aunt lives on mile 10 and I’m staying with them and they are checking into it for me. I will post if I hear anything.
thanks. i’ll try and find the answer as well.
My advice there is to hit the earlier shuttles, but take along the supplies to be comfortable. When I did Boston in 2007 (40 degrees and rain) I had tarp, sleeping bag, umbrella, ski jacket, and plenty of water and snacks. You can put all your things in a backpack, tie your dry bag to it, and drop it off at the busses 20 minutes before the start. If you go prepared, it is actually quite nice to lounge around and relax.
I did it last year I think I was wave two or three and took the bus I was told to and HAD LOTS LOTS OF TIME to KILL. However if you miss you miss. One thought it you could get your aunt or whoever to drive you to the highway or the route the buses take and get on there. You can get on at any point. There where guys and girls getting off peeing in the bushes and getting on the next bus last year. Some had to squeeze in or wait for a bus or two but we took on and dropped of several people. Also you can be dropped at the start it is not to bad. All that being said for me go to bed earlier get there with plently of time so you dont have to stress.
BOSTON was awsome and totally seemless for me last year.
I thought they would only take the “drop bag” that they give you? Do you think they still allow an extra bag?
That is a common practice at any race that accepts dry bags…just tie the plastic bag the give you to the strap on a backpack. The volunteers that are lugging those things don’t care.
If you can get someone to drive you out to the Hopkinton Industrial park, the BAA runs buses from there to the start as well.
