Bontrager XXX Aerobars- vaporware?

Earlier in the year there was alot of hype about these. Do they even exist in the states and if so who sells them?

They do exist. I believe only Trek dealers can get their hands on them, but don’t quote me on that. They’re super expensive and haven’t had much (any) advertising, which is why I think nobody has them. They’re cool bars.

Three weeks ago, I saw a set on a Kuota Kalibur at a sprint race in Jacksonville, Fla. Very sharp. In fact, while we’re on the subject, I saw three Kaliburs at that race. I had never seen one live and in color before, and it’s an extremely nice bike. Of the three, this one was outfitted with Zipps, Bontrager bars (S-bends, correct?) and lots of bells and whistles. So apparently they do exist.

They come standard with good ol’ “dog leg” bars, but are available with s-bends as an upgrade. I think these bars are around $600 just with the regular aero extensions. They’re freaky light- something around 600 grams.

There was a set on ebay last week, not sure if they are still there or not.

they are definately some available at Trek / Bontrager dealers. I have a white set in my living room waiting to put them on my TT. they come with the regular bend but you can buy an s-bend upgrade.

they look really cool - i just need to put them on my bike!

And why aren’t they on your bike?

it’ll happen. I’m actually riding a road bike a lot more this year and will only race the full aero set up 2 or 3 times this year - i’ve been busy fiddling with wheels the past couple weeks and pulling cables and cutting housing will have to wait a few more days! when i put em’ on i’ll post a pic… now i want to get my bike repainted white to match the bars… ha!

Who sells them here in the states?

I’ve been building clip ons with Profile armrests and bonty carbon s-bend extensions. Haven’t had any full sets yet, but they’re out there.

As I said- Trek dealers.

Pictures.

I’m bumping this post back up again. Most Trek dealers where I live (Pacific NW) don’t sell tri-bikes so thus far I am still at a loss as to how one can get these bars in the USA. If you “google it” there appear to be on-line stores in the UK that sell them though I am reluctant to take this route. Does anyone out there even own a set of these bars?

Have you actually stepped foot into said Trek dealers? I work at a Trek dealer- we’re not technically a “tri shop”, but since we carry everything from Bontrager/Trek/Klein/LeMond/Gary Fisher, we can order ANYTHING from them (assuming it’s in stock at Trek). Your Trek dealer will have a catalogue that has those aerobars in it (I’ve seen them in there with my own eyes). They can get on to their computers, type in the part number, and see whether or not the bars are available. Actually, hold on… (checking stock right now on the Trek Dealer site)…

Nope, none are available at this point in time. What you (or anyone) can do is put them on backorder and they’ll ship once Bontrager does another production run. I don’t know what other stores do, but my shop requires 1/3rd down to special order items like this.

As mentioned…any Trek dealer can order them.

If you want them shipped today…call Gear West at 877-Tri-Plus. http://gearwestbike.com/merchant/746/images//site/new%20web%20logo.jpg
